Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island has been a cornerstone of adventure fiction for over a century, inspiring countless adaptations—from the beloved Muppet take to more serious retellings. Now, MGM+ is putting its own spin on the classic tale with a star-studded series that has been rolling out throughout October. The cast includes David Oyelowo, Hayley Atwell, Tom Sweet, Jack Huston, and Tomer Capone, and we've got an exclusive peek at the latest episode that finds some of our favorite characters in a tight spot.
The new clip, which you can watch above, brings together Long John Silver (Oyelowo), Aaron Graham (Huston), and young Jim Hawkins (Sweet) as they sit on the ground, waiting to be summoned by the Governor. The tension is palpable, but the scene also showcases the show's knack for blending dark humor with high-stakes drama. It's a perfect taste of what the series has to offer.
What Is MGM+'s Treasure Island About?
The series is described as "a high-stakes reinvention of the classic," following teenager Jim Hawkins and his formidable mother Bess as they're drawn into a deadly race for the treasure of the infamous Captain Flint. Battling for control are Long John Silver—a ruthless survivor who is just as charming as he is cunning—and Aaron Graham, a revolutionary spy seeking to use the gold to upend colonial power. Set in 1788 across storm-battered Cornwall, treacherous seas, and a jungle island soaked in secrets, this is Treasure Island reimagined as a thrilling, immersive, and character-driven epic.
The series has been praised for its fresh take on the source material, giving fans a deeper look into the motivations and backstories of these iconic characters. The clip we're sharing is a prime example of how the show balances its darker themes with moments of levity, making it a must-watch for both longtime fans and newcomers.
If you're a fan of the book, you'll appreciate how this adaptation honors the original while adding new layers of complexity. And if you're new to the story, this series is a great entry point. For more on the show, check out our recent coverage of other MGM+ originals.
