Chris Hemsworth has spent the better part of a decade swinging a hammer as the God of Thunder, but it's his other action franchise that's been keeping him busy lately. The actor has officially confirmed that Extraction 3 has wrapped filming, sharing a series of behind-the-scenes photos from Thailand on social media.

The images, captured by photographer Evan Paterakis, showcase the final leg of an extensive international shoot. Principal photography began in July 2026, with production taking place in Sydney, Wollongong, and several European locations before moving to Thailand for the finale.

Who's joining Chris Hemsworth in 'Extraction 3'?

Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake, the former Australian special forces soldier turned black-market mercenary who has somehow survived two movies that seemed determined to kill him off. Sam Hargrave is back in the director's chair, with Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame) and David Weil (Citadel) co-writing the screenplay. The franchise is based on the graphic novel Ciudad, and cinematographer Fraser Taggart is also returning.

Alongside Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani (Paterson) and Idris Elba (Luther) are reprising their roles. New additions to the cast include Don Lee (Eternals), Joe Taslim (The Raid), Chi Lewis-Parry (Gladiator II), Siena Agudong (Resident Evil), and Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye).

A franchise that's been a massive hit for Netflix

The first two Extraction films have been enormous successes for Netflix, collectively racking up more than 545 million hours watched and 270 million views in their first 91 days on the platform. Hargrave's elaborate action choreography and extended, seemingly uninterrupted fight sequences have helped establish the series as one of Netflix's signature action franchises.

Development on the third film began in April 2024, with Hemsworth making it clear he'd only return if the story justified it. "We're not going to do it unless we find a story that's worth telling," he said at the time. "We've got to make sure we're not just doing it for the sake of doing it."

Netflix hasn't announced an official release date yet, but Extraction 3 could hit the streamer sometime in 2027. Both previous films are currently streaming on Netflix, so fans can catch up on Tyler Rake's adventures before the next chapter arrives.
