This weekend, the box office is buzzing with everything from a groundbreaking documentary to a new animated epic. But if you'd rather stay in, Prime Video has you covered with a trio of films that span genres and moods. Whether you're in the mood for a psychological thriller, a dose of holiday cheer, or a darkly comedic fantasy, these picks will keep you entertained from your couch.
Blink Twice: A Thriller with a Star-Studded Cast
Channing Tatum is set to reprise his role as Gambit in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, but before that, you can catch him in one of his most compelling recent roles. Blink Twice (2024) is a psychological thriller that follows tech billionaire Slater King (Tatum) as he invites cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) and her friend Jess (Alia Shawkat) to his private island. What starts as a dream vacation quickly unravels into a nightmare of hidden truths and unsettling discoveries.
The film, directed by Zoë Kravitz, is a timely and intense ride, bolstered by strong performances and a haunting score from Chanda Dancy. It's the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end, making it a perfect pick for a weekend watch. Elf: Kickstart the Holiday Season
With Halloween behind us, the countdown to Christmas has officially begun. If you're already humming carols, Elf (2003) is the ultimate festive treat. Directed by Jon Favreau, this modern classic stars Will Ferrell as Buddy, a human raised by elves at the North Pole who ventures to New York City to find his biological father. The only problem? His dad doesn't know he exists, and the bustling city is a lot for Buddy to handle.
Ferrell's performance is iconic, and he's joined by a delightful cast including Mary Steenburgen, Bob Newhart, Zooey Deschanel, and the late James Caan. It's hilarious, heartwarming, and packed with holiday spirit—exactly what you need to get in the mood. For more cozy picks, check out our coziest movies on Netflix this weekend.
Death Becomes Her: A Darkly Comic Fantasy
If you're not ready to let go of spooky season, Death Becomes Her (1992) offers a perfect blend of horror and comedy. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film stars Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep as rivals who will do anything to maintain eternal youth and beauty, with disastrously hilarious consequences. Bruce Willis delivers a scene-stealing performance as the man caught between them.
While some themes may feel dated in a post-The Substance world, the sheer entertainment value remains undeniable. It's a testament to Zemeckis's versatility and a must-watch for fans of dark humor. If you're looking for more binge-worthy content, our Netflix binge guide has you covered.
