If you're counting the days until Ghosts returns for its sixth season, you might want to check out iZombie on Prime Video. This five-season series, which originally aired on The CW from 2015 to 2019, stars Rose McIver—the same actress who brings Samantha to life in the CBS comedy. With its mix of supernatural elements, sharp humor, and a leading lady you already love, it's the perfect binge to fill the gap.

Ghosts follows Sam and her husband Jay as they turn a sprawling estate into a bed-and-breakfast, only for Sam to discover she can see and talk to the quirky spirits who haunt the property. The show has been a hit, but CBS has pushed the next regular season to spring 2027, with only holiday specials in the meantime. The network recently aired a Halloween special that resolved Pete's cliffhanger, and a two-part "Ghostmas" special is set for December 10, 2026. But for those who need more supernatural comedy now, iZombie delivers.

What Is iZombie About?

In iZombie, McIver plays Olivia "Liv" Moore, a Seattle medical resident who turns into a zombie after a boat party goes wrong. To keep her secret, she takes a job at a morgue, where she has unlimited access to brains. But eating brains comes with a side effect: she inherits the personality and memories of the deceased. Using this to her advantage, she poses as a psychic and teams up with Detective Clive Babineaux to solve murders. Along the way, she finds an ally in her boss Ravi, who is determined to find a cure, while dealing with a brain-dealing syndicate run by Blaine and Don E.

The show, based on the comic book series by Mike Allred and Chris Roberson, was adapted by Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright, known for Veronica Mars. It blends procedural crime-solving with supernatural drama and a healthy dose of comedy, making it a unique entry in the genre.

Why iZombie Works for Ghosts Fans

Both shows share a similar comedic tone, using humor to soften the darker aspects of their supernatural premises. Ghosts jokes about getting "sucked off" to heaven, while iZombie adds cartoonish touches to Liv's zombie appearance and even features cooking montages as she tries to make brains more palatable. McIver's characters in both series are constantly trying to hide their abilities, leading to awkward situations and hilarious cover-ups. In Ghosts, Sam's secret is her ghost-seeing ability; in iZombie, Liv's secret is her zombie nature. Both have a trusted confidant—Jay in Ghosts, Ravi in iZombie—who helps them navigate their double lives.

Beyond the comedy, both shows explore themes of reinvention. Sam leaves her journalism career to run a bed-and-breakfast and finds new purpose in helping the ghosts. Liv gives up her perfect life as a doctor and fiancée to become a crime-solving zombie, ultimately finding meaning in helping others like her. McIver shines in both roles, but iZombie gives her the chance to play a different personality each week, showcasing her range.

With 71 episodes, iZombie is a substantial binge that will keep you entertained for weeks.
