Netflix has snagged a key talent from the Wizarding World. Mohammed Adnan, the development producer behind HBO Max's Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, has officially joined the streaming giant as a manager of documentary series in the U.S.

Adnan announced the career move on LinkedIn, expressing excitement about working alongside "some of the world's most talented storytellers." He leaves Story Film Limited, where he helped bring the beloved reunion special to life, featuring original cast and crew from the eight Harry Potter films released between 2001 and 2011.

Destiny 2's Final Chapter: Bungie's Greatest Game Gets a Bittersweet Goodbye
Bungie has canceled all future plans for Destiny 2, ending a 12-year era. Players are flocking back for one last ride in this bittersweet finale.

His former colleagues at Story Films, founders Peter Beard and David Nath, had nothing but praise. "Adnan is a truly talented creative and lovely person – we have been proud to have him as part of the team at Story," they said in a statement. "We know he will go on to further success at Netflix and we wish him all the very best in this next exciting chapter." Beard also joked on LinkedIn that he hopes Adnan will commission his future work, adding a touch of bittersweet humor to the departure.

This hire is a notable win for Netflix's documentary division, which has been steadily building a reputation for compelling non-fiction content. Recent offerings include Michael Jackson: The Verdict, a deep dive into the King of Pop's 2005 trial, as well as Eat the Rich: The GameStop Saga and Unknown Number: The High School Catfish. The streamer also dabbles in mockumentaries like Cunk on Earth and Death To 2020.

Interestingly, this move comes after a near-miss acquisition in 2025, when Warner Bros. Discovery was almost bought by Netflix. That deal would have given Netflix rights to DC franchises and Harry Potter, and the streamer even published key art featuring Daniel Radcliffe's Harry alongside Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven from Stranger Things. While that deal fell through—Paramount is now set to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery—Netflix is still taking a piece of the Wizarding World with them by hiring one of its key producers.

For fans of the franchise, this news adds another layer to the ongoing saga of Harry Potter adaptations. HBO is currently developing a Harry Potter series that aims to perfect the Golden Trio for a new generation. Meanwhile, Netflix continues to invest in high-profile documentaries, and Adnan's experience with the reunion special could bring a similar magic to upcoming projects.
