Anime has always been a gateway to other worlds, but few subgenres capture that sense of adventure quite like portal fantasy. Unlike isekai, where characters are often trapped in a new realm, portal fantasy allows heroes to travel back and forth between worlds. This dynamic opens up endless storytelling possibilities, from high-stakes battles to cozy slice-of-life moments. Below, we rank the ten greatest portal fantasy anime of all time, considering factors like writing, animation, originality, and fan reception.
