Mewtwo has been a fan favorite since its mysterious debut in the original Pokémon games, lurking in Cerulean Cave as a formidable level 70 legendary. Its cinematic turn in Pokémon: The First Movie as a tortured, philosophical antagonist cemented its place in pop culture. With two Mega Evolutions and nearly three decades of appearances, Mewtwo's appeal shows no signs of fading. In the Pokémon TCG, this Genetic Pokémon has graced everything from nostalgic vintage holos to exquisitely detailed modern illustrations, and some of its cards have become holy grails for collectors.
While many Mewtwo cards are affordable, the rarest versions command jaw-dropping prices. Here’s a look at the ten most valuable Mewtwo cards ever released, based on current market data.
10. First Edition Shadowless Holo Mewtwo (Base Set)
Market Price: $403
The very first English Mewtwo card, illustrated by Ken Sugimori, is a cornerstone of any vintage collection. The first two print runs of the Base Set lacked the dark shadow around the artwork frame, a quirk now known as “Shadowless.” The First Edition stamp adds immense value, making this a must-have for serious collectors.
9. Holo Mewtwo (Staff Stamped) – Evolutions
Market Price: $505
Released in 2016 as part of the 20th anniversary celebration, the Evolutions set reimagined classic cards. This Mewtwo features the original artwork but updated stats. The Staff-stamped version, given only to tournament organizers and judges, is exceptionally rare and highly sought after.
8. First Edition Holo Rocket’s Mewtwo – Gym Challenge
