HBO's The Pitt has quickly become a must-watch medical drama, and fans can rejoice: Jalen Thomas Brooks is officially scrubbing back in for Season 3. The actor, who plays Nurse Mateo Diaz, confirmed his return in an exclusive interview with Collider at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival.
"I will be there. I will be in Season 3," Brooks said. "I don't know much, just like how everybody on that show never really knows. But what I do know is that the people behind The Pitt, and that whole creative team, they care a lot about what they're doing. They're so seasoned, and they have stories to tell — important ones, too. So, you're going to continue to see stories of importance and see professionals and masters at class."
Brooks' confirmation comes as The Pitt prepares for its third season, which is set to premiere next year around the same time as previous seasons. The show has been praised for its rapid turnaround, a rarity in today's streaming landscape where multi-year gaps between seasons are common. "When [new episodes of the show] come out, we're still filming it," Brooks explained. "So, it feels like that old-school vibe." That approach mirrors classic network procedurals like NCIS and Blue Bloods, which churn out new seasons annually while simultaneously filming the next.
However, Season 3 won't look exactly like Season 2. The medical drama is undergoing some cast changes: Supriya Ganesh will not return as Dr. Samira Mohan, and Shabana Azeez, who plays Victoria Javadi, will step into a smaller role. These shifts suggest the series is evolving, but Brooks' return ensures some continuity for fans invested in Mateo's journey.
The Pitt premiered in January 2024, marking HBO's first foray into the medical drama genre. Starring Noah Wyle as Dr. Robby, the series brought the actor back to the medical world nearly two decades after his iconic run as Dr. John Carter on ER. That nostalgia, combined with a fresh, unorthodox take on the genre, has made The Pitt one of the most-watched shows on television. Season 2 arrived exactly one year after Season 1, and HBO has already confirmed Season 3 for next year.
For those who want to catch up, the first two seasons of The Pitt are streaming on HBO Max. As for what's next, Brooks' enthusiasm for the creative team suggests Season 3 will continue to deliver the compelling, important stories that have defined the series so far. Stay tuned for more updates as production continues.
