When Sterling Point debuted on Prime Video, it quickly became one of the year's standout shows, blending family drama, first loves, and a mystery that kept viewers guessing. Now, with Season 2 officially confirmed, showrunner Megan Park is opening up about the journey so far and what fans can expect next.
The series follows 17-year-old Annie Jacobson (Ella Rubin), who leaves New York City for a Canadian island after inheriting it from a grandfather she never knew. There, she uncovers family secrets that upend her twin brother (Keen Ruffalo) and adoptive father's (Jay Duplass) lives. Along the way, she finds new friends, a potential romance with two very different guys, and a half-sister she never knew existed.
While the love triangle between Annie, Rory (Daniel Quinn-Toye), and Ellis (Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie) is a central draw, Park emphasizes that the real heart of the show is the bond between Annie and her newly discovered sister, Ramona (Amélie Hoeferle). "That relationship is the anchor," Park says. "It's about two people finding each other and filling in the blanks of their own story."
Megan Park's Unconventional Writing Process
Park admits she didn't have a detailed outline when she started writing the pilot. "I just start at page one and see where it goes," she says. "I knew the characters and the tone, but the plot evolved with the help of a brilliant writers' room." That collaborative approach extended to the cast, with Park encouraging improvisation and "magical moments" that weren't on the page.
One such moment was Annie's unexpected hookup with Rory in Episode 5. "That was a last-minute decision," Park reveals. "We thought, what if Annie, who never does anything impulsive, does something messy on her 18th birthday? It felt true to her character and added a layer of complexity."
Casting and Chemistry
Park, who drew on her own acting experience, prioritized creating a safe, playful set. "I wanted the younger cast to feel free to try things," she explains. "We did a lot of bonding activities, and that chemistry shows on screen." She also highlighted the casting of Oona, originally written as non-British, but changed to suit Bo Bragason's unique energy.
For Season 2, Park teases more twists and deeper exploration of Annie's relationships. "We're not done with the island's secrets," she says. "And the love triangle isn't resolved—there's more to come for Annie, Rory, and Ellis."
While Park is also developing a new film, she's fully committed to Sterling Point's future. "I'm excited to keep telling these characters' stories," she says. "There's so much more to uncover."
