Get ready for more sun-soaked chaos in the Florida Keys. Vince Vaughn is returning as the perpetually unlucky Andrew Yancy in the second season of Bad Monkey, and the first trailer promises his most outrageous adventure yet. The show, which premiered its first season two years ago, is set to drop its new episodes on December 2 exclusively on Apple TV+.
For those who missed the first season, Yancy was a Key West detective who got demoted to restaurant inspector after a run-in with the wrong end of a paddle. His life took a bizarre turn when he was asked to dispose of a severed human arm, which led him into a tangled web of murder, land developers, and a particularly nasty monkey. With the help of medical examiner Rosa Campesino (Natalie Martinez) and his old partner Rogelio (John Ortiz), he tried to uncover the truth behind the arm's owner, all while dealing with a host of eccentric characters.
Now, in season 2, Yancy has a shot at getting his badge back—but there's a catch. He has to take down Spencer Donovan, a criminal mastermind played by the always-menacing John Malkovich. As you might expect, things don't go according to plan. The trailer shows Yancy in way over his head, with a new partner by his side, an assassin on his tail, and a bizarre feud with a rat relocation expert. It's classic Bad Monkey mayhem, and it looks absolutely wild.
The new season also boasts an impressive cast, including Yvonne Strahovski, Zavior Phillips, Nate Jackson, Sofia Boutella, Brent Morin, Joey Avery, Dax Shepard, Sam Jaeger, Margarita Levieva, Peter Billingsley, and June Diane Raphael. And yes, the monkey is back too, because what would this show be without it?
Who's Behind the Madness?
Bad Monkey is based on the 2013 novel by Carl Hiaasen, who also serves as an executive producer. The show is created and run by Bill Lawrence, the mind behind Scrubs and Shrinking. Lawrence, along with Vaughn, Hiaasen, and a team of producers including Jeff Ingold, Matt Tarses, Liza Katzer, Adam Sztykiel, and Chris Downey, have crafted a series that blends crime, comedy, and a healthy dose of Florida weirdness.
While Hiaasen wrote a sequel to Bad Monkey called Razor Girl, the second season of the show is not based on that book. Instead, the writers have cooked up an original story that takes Yancy in new and unpredictable directions. If the trailer is any indication, fans are in for a treat.
