Fans of FX's chilling sci-fi horror series Alien: Earth have reason to celebrate: creator Noah Hawley has confirmed that Season 2 will officially start filming this summer. The announcement comes as the show, a prequel to the iconic Alien franchise, gears up for its next chapter after a successful debut on Hulu.
Hawley, best known for his work on Fargo, shared the update in a recent interview, revealing that production is moving from Thailand to London. "What I can say is that we start [filming] this summer," he said. "We're getting close. I did a stage walk today past the props and costumes. Things are being built. It's always exciting to see it." The shift to London, he noted, offers a better long-term home for the series.
The show, produced by Ridley Scott, explores a dystopian 2120 where Earth is ruled by five corporations. The first season introduced viewers to a world of cyborgs, synthetics, and a groundbreaking hybrid named Wendy, who becomes central to a terrifying encounter with alien life forms. While plot details for Season 2 remain under wraps, Hawley and his writing team are hard at work crafting new episodes.
Hawley also hinted at the series' potential longevity, expressing hope for multiple seasons. "It's my hope. I have a place that I'm going, but I don't know how long it will take me to get there," he said. "Assuming that's the price of execution and the audience stays commensurate, we could go for as long as we want. If we nurture them, these franchises can give back for a very long time."
The renewal for Season 2 came in November, over a month after the first season concluded. The show has been a hit for Hulu, blending corporate intrigue with classic sci-fi horror. For those who missed it, the first season is available to stream now.
Ridley Scott, meanwhile, is having a busy 2026. Beyond Alien: Earth, he's set to release The Dog Stars, a post-apocalyptic thriller starring Josh Brolin, Jacob Elordi, and Margaret Qualley, on August 28. The film, delayed from an earlier release, follows survivors in a world ravaged by a virus. Scott's involvement as a producer on Alien: Earth underscores his continued investment in the sci-fi genre.
