Since her debut in the hit Prime Video series Reacher, Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) has been a fan favorite, known for her lethal skills and no-nonsense attitude. Now, with her own spin-off series Neagley wrapping up its first season, Sten is opening up about the emotional journey, the explosive finale, and what could be in store for Season 2.
In a recent interview, Sten delved into the evolution of Neagley's relationships, particularly with Detective Hudson Riley (Greyston Holt). "I love their dynamic because there's a real journey of a relationship," she said. "They both have family trauma, and they find common ground. They respect each other professionally, and when Hudson shows up for her unexpectedly, it changes how she sees him. He doesn't judge her, and that speaks volumes."
That growth is a central theme of the season, as Neagley learns to let her guard down, even if just a little. "She's still who she is, but she opens herself to the possibility of something more," Sten added. "The will-they-won't-they is something I'd love to explore further."
One of the most talked-about moments is the finale's brutal fight scene, where Neagley uses her thighs to take down an opponent. "That was intense," Sten admitted. "It was physically demanding, but it's exactly the kind of fight Neagley would have—efficient and deadly."
Another pivotal moment is when Neagley finally shakes hands with Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson), a huge step for someone with haphephobia (fear of touch). "That's my favorite line from the whole show," Sten said, referring to Neagley's quip about Reacher's soft hands. "It shows she's still the same Neagley, even after all her growth."
The season also deals with Neagley's grief over her father's death, which she learns about too late. "It's heartbreaking," Sten said. "She's forced to confront her past and her avoidance, and that's what drives her to finally face her fears."
As for Season 2, Sten is hopeful. "There's so much more to explore," she said. "Her team is set up, her relationships are evolving, and there are still so many layers to her character."
