For over three decades, Home Alone has been a staple of holiday viewing, with Macaulay Culkin's Kevin McCallister outwitting the bumbling Wet Bandits. Now, Disney is putting its own spin on the beloved classic, swapping Kevin for the world's most famous mouse.

The studio has unveiled the first trailer for Mickey's Home Alone, a brand-new animated special that reimagines the 1990 hit with Mickey Mouse and Pluto in the lead roles. The special premieres November 26 at 6 p.m. ET/PT on Disney Jr., before landing on Disney+ the following day, November 27.

Apocalypse Z: New World, the sequel to the 2024 Spanish zombie hit, has surged to #1 on Prime Video globally, unseating Sacha Baron Cohen's Ali G comeback.

A Festive Twist on a Familiar Tale

In this new holiday adventure, Mickey is thrilled to spend Christmas at home, but his plans are upended when Minnie surprises him and the gang with tickets to a world-famous Ice Palace. In the rush to get out the door, Mickey and Pluto are accidentally left behind—and soon find themselves having to defend their holiday dinner from a pair of mischievous intruders: a raccoon and a weasel with a taste for trouble.

The special promises plenty of slapstick humor and heartwarming moments, staying true to the spirit of the original while adding a distinctly Disney twist. It's a fresh take that leans into the charm of its animated stars rather than trying to extend the original story.

The Legacy of 'Home Alone'

The original Home Alone, directed by Chris Columbus and written by John Hughes, became one of the most successful family comedies ever made, grossing over $476 million worldwide. Its sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, was another massive hit, earning $356 million on a $28 million budget. While critics were mixed on the sequel, audiences embraced the bigger stakes and chaotic comedy.

Culkin, who was just 10 when he starred in the sequel, negotiated a lucrative deal that included a 15% cut of merchandising—including the iconic Talkboy. He later revealed on Hot Ones that he also owned 5% of the net profits, joking, "If you buy a Talkboy, I'm like, 'Yeah, I'll take a percent of that. Thank you very much.'"

That deal made him the highest-paid child actor of his time, earning $4.5 million for the sequel alone.

Disney's Ongoing Love for Holiday Classics

Disney has been leaning into holiday nostalgia across its streaming platforms. Fans can also enjoy other festive fare like A Very Merry Breakup, a rom-com that flips the script on typical holiday love stories. And for those who prefer action-packed holidays, Schwarzenegger and Ritchson team up for a holiday heist in an upcoming thriller.

With Mickey's Home Alone, Disney is betting that the combination of a timeless story and beloved characters will resonate with both kids and nostalgic adults. The special is set to become a new holiday tradition for families, offering a fresh way to enjoy the magic of the season.

Mark your calendars: Mickey's Home Alone premieres November 26 on Disney Jr. and streams on Disney+ starting November 27.
