Nicolas Cage is gearing up for a massive 2026–2027 stretch. After headlining his first TV series and swinging back into the Spider-Verse as Ben Reilly in Prime Video's acclaimed Spider-Noir, he's got two more films hitting theaters this month. First up is David O. Russell's Madden, where Cage embodies the legendary football coach, opening in select theaters on November 11 before streaming on Amazon a week later. Then, on November 20, he joins Justin Long and Shelley Hennig for the wild action-comedy Best Pancakes in the County, available in theaters and on digital the same day. But the one fans have been waiting for is finally on the horizon: his return as arms trafficker Yuri Orlov.
Vertical has set Lords of War for a January 22, 2027 release, and the first teaser has just dropped, giving us a glimpse of the explosive father-son dynamic at the heart of the sequel. Andrew Niccol, who wrote and directed the 2005 cult classic Lord of War, is back behind the camera, picking up years after Yuri's fateful deal with a Sierra Leonean militia. This time, his legacy is threatened by a mercenary mastermind who turns out to be his illegitimate son, Anton, played by Bill Skarsgård. Anton is building his own private army, and the two are on a collision course for power, influence, and even the same woman—setting the stage for a bloody battle where family ties are nothing but a liability.
The original Lord of War may have underperformed at the box office with $72.6 million worldwide, but it found a massive second life on DVD, becoming a fan favorite. Cage is the only returning actor from the first film, which also starred Ethan Hawke, Bridget Moynahan, and Jared Leto. For the sequel, Niccol has assembled a strong supporting cast including Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks, and Greg Tarzan Davis. Producers Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi, both veterans of the first movie, are back to ensure continuity.
The teaser, which you can watch above, sets a tense, gritty tone, with Cage's world-weary Yuri facing off against Skarsgård's cold, calculating Anton. It's a classic clash of generations, but with the high-stakes world of international arms dealing as the backdrop. The film also promises to explore the real-world consequences of the arms trade, set against the U.S. wars in the Middle East, much like the original did.
For fans of Cage's more intense, dramatic work, Lords of War looks like a return to form. And if you're hungry for more action, check out our Jean-Claude Van Damme's latest martial arts thriller or the new Netflix series Trinity for more high-octane entertainment.
With Lords of War hitting theaters on January 22, 2027, Cage is proving he's still one of Hollywood's most unpredictable and compelling stars. Whether he's playing a football coach, a pancake-loving action hero, or a morally bankrupt arms dealer, he always brings the intensity. This sequel is shaping up to be a worthy follow-up to a cult classic, and the father-son showdown with Skarsgård is sure to be a highlight.
