It's been just over a month since Lee Cronin's The Mummy hit theaters, swapping out the classic Egyptian iconography and Brendan Fraser's charm for a claustrophobic possession nightmare. The film follows the Cannon family, whose daughter Katie (Natalie Grace) vanished in the desert only to be found eight years later inside an ancient sarcophagus. But the girl who returns isn't the same—she's possessed by something dark and hungry. Now, as the film prepares to land on digital platforms, we've got an exclusive sneak peek that'll make your skin crawl.
The clip, which we can exclusively share, plunges us into the crawlspace between the walls of the Cannon home. Parents Charlie (Jack Reynor) and Larissa (Laia Costa) are trying to wrangle Katie, who has developed a taste for scorpions. Her twitchy, unnatural movements—combined with Grace's unnerving performance—make every second feel like a trap about to snap shut. As the parents struggle to contain her, the other siblings wake up to the commotion and witness their sister scrambling through the halls on all fours. It's a stomach-churning glimpse of the hell this family is living through.
In desperation, Charlie and Larissa finally catch Katie and force her to vomit the poisonous arachnid bits out of her system. It's a visceral, horrifying moment that underscores the film's central theme: the terror of watching someone you love become something you fear. Cronin, who revitalized the Evil Dead franchise with 2023's Evil Dead Rise, brings the same suffocating atmosphere and family-centric storytelling to this reimagining of the Universal monster.
Alongside the film's digital release on May 19, the 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray editions (arriving July 14) will be packed with special features. A making-of documentary follows Cronin as he crafts his terrifying vision, while other extras dive into the grotesque special effects, Grace's visceral performance, and how real Egyptian roots informed the production design. Deleted scenes and director's commentary round out the package.
While critics were divided on Cronin's bold take, audiences embraced the terror, giving the film a 76% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. Against a modest $22 million budget, The Mummy grossed $87 million worldwide, proving that horror fans are hungry for fresh spins on classic monsters. The cast also includes May Calamawy and Veronica Falcón, with horror heavyweights James Wan and Jason Blum serving as executive producers through Atomic Monster and Blumhouse.
