Jennifer Lopez is trading action thrillers and sci-fi for a steamy desk-side dalliance in Netflix's upcoming rom-com, Office Romance. The streamer dropped the official trailer on Wednesday, giving fans a first look at Lopez as a high-powered airline CEO who falls into a secret affair with the company's newest lawyer, played by Ted Lasso's Brett Goldstein.
Lopez has been a busy woman at Netflix. After starring in the 2023 action thriller The Mother and last year's sci-fi flick Atlas, she's now gearing up for The Last Mrs. Parrish, an adaptation of Liv Constantine's thriller directed by Robert Zemeckis. But before that, she's clocking in for Office Romance, which hits the streamer on June 5.
What's the Story?
Lopez plays a no-nonsense airline CEO who also pilots planes, making high-stakes calls both in the boardroom and the cockpit. Enter Goldstein's character, a whip-smart lawyer who's just as dedicated to his job. Despite their workaholic tendencies, the two decide to break the rules and pursue a secret romance—one that's as risky as it is raunchy. The trailer promises plenty of heat, humor, and heart.
Goldstein isn't just acting here; he also co-wrote the screenplay with Ted Lasso writer and co-creator Joe Kelly. It's a chance for the Emmy winner to flex his romantic comedy muscles, following his role in the indie All of You with Imogen Poots. Lopez, of course, is a rom-com queen, having charmed audiences in classics like The Wedding Planner, Maid in Manhattan, and more recently Shotgun Wedding.
Who's in the Cast?
Director Ol Parker, who helmed Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and the George Clooney-Julia Roberts rom-com Ticket to Paradise, brings a stellar supporting cast. Betty Gilpin, Amy Sedaris, Tony Hale, and Bradley Whitford all join the fun. And in a sweet reunion, Edward James Olmos—who played Lopez's on-screen father in the 1997 biopic Selena—also appears.
For fans of unconventional rom-coms, Office Romance looks like a perfect fit. It's a refreshing change of pace from the darker, more dramatic fare that's dominated streaming lately—like the buzz-challenged second season of Beef.
Office Romance premieres on Netflix on June 5. Check out the trailer above.
