Jason Momoa is keeping busy—juggling Supergirl, Lobo, and the return of his HBO Max docuseries On the Roam—but fans of his R-rated Apple TV+ war drama Chief of War may have to wait a bit longer for more episodes. In a recent interview with Collider, Momoa and director Brian Andrew Mendoza gave an update on the show's future, revealing it's currently in a holding pattern.

“We sold it as a one-shot with the inspiration to hopefully do more,” Momoa explained. “We’re just waiting for it to do its run and hopefully get some more words. But basically, right now, it’s kind of at a bit of a standstill.” Despite the pause, the actor remains hopeful, adding, “There’s definitely high hopes to do more with that storyline because there’s so much to tell.”

Stargate Origins: Prime Video's Hidden Sci-Fi Prequel Miniseries Worth Binging
Prime Video's Stargate Origins is a 10-part sci-fi miniseries that serves as a prequel to the original film, set in 1938 and following Catherine Langford's first adventure through the gate.

The series, which explores the untold history of Hawaiian unification through a gritty, R-rated lens, was originally conceived as a limited series. But Momoa and Mendoza have hinted at a larger saga waiting to be told—one that could dive deeper into the islands' rich and often violent past. For now, though, fans will have to settle for the first season, which is still streaming on Apple TV+.

While Chief of War sits on the back burner, Momoa is channeling his restless energy into On the Roam Season 2, a docuseries that follows him across the country as he meets artists, musicians, and craftspeople who inspire him. This season, viewers will see him reconnect with garage punk band The Bobby Lees, collaborate with painter and filmmaker Julian Schnabel, and even break down the mechanics of a custom Rolls-Royce.

“It’s just a manic schedule,” Momoa admitted, describing how he balanced filming Lobo and SNL while trying to shoot the band’s final show. “But you get to see that section of time that, if I just were doing that passion without shooting it, it would be just in pictures and maybe lost.”

Mendoza added that the show has become a meditation on time itself. “The people we get who let us into their homes are really good at knowing how to control their time,” he said. “They’re artists, craftsmen—they’re fulfilled by what they’re able to complete at the end of the day. It’s a good thing to see.”

One of the season’s most surprising moments came when Momoa’s friendship with Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett evolved from a simple guitar conversation into a full-blown benefit concert for flood relief in Hawaii. “Next thing you know, Sharon Osbourne wants us to be a part of the Black Sabbath concert,” Momoa laughed. “Now Kirk Hammett is going to come play ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ with us.”

As for Chief of War, Momoa remains optimistic. “We’re just waiting for it to do its run,” he said. “There’s so much to tell.” Until then, fans can catch him on On the Roam Season 2, streaming now on HBO Max.
