Francisco Ramos, Netflix's Vice President of Content for Latin America, recently shared an update on the show's future. He revealed that the second season is in advanced development, with work already underway on the technical and visual effects front. The goal is to bring the new episodes to screens by 2027, though the actual production timeline is still being mapped out.
“The ambition has gone to a new level,” Ramos said. “Stuff is already happening, but it’s not actually with actors on screen, it’s technical with some VFX conceptualization. The actual shoot with the talent on screen, we don’t know [the dates] yet because it’s way bigger than Season 1, not only in budget, but in terms of scope and conception. We need to figure out how we deliver on everything that is expected to be delivered in Season 2, while yet being able to continue with it for a potential Season 3.”
Based on Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López's landmark 1957 graphic novel El Eternauta, the series follows Juan Salvo and a group of survivors in Buenos Aires after a mysterious deadly snowfall wipes out most of the population. As they fight to stay alive, they discover the toxic snow is just the first wave of an alien invasion. The show stars Ricardo Darín as Juan, alongside Carla Peterson, César Troncoso, Andrea Pietra, Ariel Staltari, and Mora Fisz.
Season 1 premiered in April 2025 and earned rave reviews, with a 96% critics' score and 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Netflix renewed the series just a week after its debut, a clear sign of its confidence in the property.
