Henry Cavill has had a busy year, from filming the long-awaited Highlander reboot alongside Russell Crowe and Dave Bautista to reuniting with Guy Ritchie for the action thriller In The Grey. But his latest project, Enola Holmes 3, quietly dropped on Netflix yesterday, and the reviews are in—and they're not as glowing as fans might have hoped.

The third installment of the detective saga sees Cavill reprising his role as Sherlock Holmes, though the spotlight remains firmly on his younger sister, Enola, played by Millie Bobby Brown. The film currently holds a 70% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, making it the lowest-rated entry in the trilogy. For context, the first two films scored 91% and 93%, respectively.

What the Critics Are Saying

Collider's David Caballero gave the film a 5/10, praising the supporting characters but calling the mystery "predictable." ScreenRant's Molly Freeman echoed that score, noting that Brown's performance as Enola has "lost its charm" and argued that the film is a strong case for why "Millie Bobby Brown shouldn't lead her own franchise." On the brighter side, CBR's Rachel Leishman rated it 8/10, saying the film finally fixed its biggest problem by allowing Enola to take center stage and step out of the shadows of her counterparts.

What Is Enola Holmes 3 About?

According to Netflix's official synopsis, the story follows Enola as she heads to Malta to marry Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge). But when she learns that Sherlock has been kidnapped, she immediately jumps into action, all while grappling with her complicated feelings about marriage. The film is part of Netflix's July 2026 lineup, which also includes other highly anticipated titles.

While Netflix hasn't confirmed whether this is the end of the franchise, all signs point to Enola Holmes 3 being the final chapter. Brown, however, isn't leaving Netflix anytime soon—she's set to reunite with her Stranger Things co-star David Harbour for a new spy thriller from the writer of Adolescence.

What's Next for Henry Cavill?

Beyond Enola Holmes 3, Cavill has several projects in the pipeline. His Highlander reboot is reportedly in its final stages of filming, though a release date hasn't been announced. Meanwhile, In The Grey—which also stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Rosamund Pike—had a lackluster theatrical run but has found a second life on VOD platforms like Prime Video, with a physical media release coming later this month.

For fans of detective stories, you might also enjoy Hulu's Agatha Christie Poirot series, which offers a more traditional take on the genre.

All three Enola Holmes movies are now streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates on Cavill's upcoming projects.
