Though Yellowstone wrapped up two years ago, Taylor Sheridan's neo-Western universe keeps expanding. The latest spin-off, Dutton Ranch, follows Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) as they try to build a new life in Texas—only to find themselves working for their biggest rival, Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening). But the drama isn't just about land and power; it's also about young love, family secrets, and a health crisis that could change everything.
In Episode 7, titled "Den of Sin," the Jackson family throws a party to officially name Beulah's son Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) as her successor. What starts as a celebration quickly spirals into betrayal, public embarrassment, and a terrifying heart attack that leaves Beulah fighting for her life. Meanwhile, Carter (Finn Little) is nursing a broken heart after confessing his love to Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) and getting rejected.
Collider spoke with Lind about why reading that script hit her hard—not just as an actor, but as a fan of the show. "It broke me," she admitted. "I love these characters so much, and seeing Carter and Oreana go through that pain felt so real."
Oreana's Free Spirit Clashes With Family Expectations
Lind describes Oreana as a "free spirit" who doesn't want to be confined by her grandmother's controlling nature. "She's trying to break generational curses," Lind explains. "She wants to do something different than what's been done in the past." That tension between Oreana and Beulah is central to the episode, and Lind credits Bening for making their scenes electric. "Annette is iconic. When she walks on set, the whole vibe changes. We spent a lot of time talking about our characters' history, and that made every scene feel lived-in."
The Jackson family is hiding plenty of dirty laundry—Oreana's father, Rob-Will, committed murder in the pilot episode, and the mystery of who dumped a ranch hand's body on the Duttons' property still looms. Lind hints that Oreana may know more than she lets on. "I think my character is very smart," she says. "She sees things, even if she doesn't always say them."
What Beulah's Health Scare Means for the Jacksons
Beulah's heart attack in Episode 7 isn't just a shock—it's a turning point. Lind believes the crisis could actually bring the fractured family closer together. "Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to realize what matters," she says. "This might force them to stop fighting and start healing."

Lind also teases that Season 2—if it happens—will dive deeper into the Jackson family's past. "There's so much trauma behind them that we haven't seen yet," she says. "I'm hoping we get to explore that."
As for Oreana and Carter's future? Lind won't spoil anything, but she promises the breakup isn't the end of their story. "They have a lot of love for each other," she says. "But sometimes love isn't enough when you're from two different worlds."
