Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, where Prime Video unveiled the Season 2 Joker, Needham admitted he initially thought, “No way,” because he couldn't compete with Hamill. But the description of the character as “European and humorless” was such a departure from everything he'd imagined that it sparked his curiosity. “I thought, ‘Well, this could be something interesting,’” he said.
That intriguing twist led to a portrayal that Needham promises is unlike any Joker audiences have seen before. Rather than mimicking Hamill, Troy Baker, or any other predecessor, he trusted the creative team's bold new vision—and the result is a villain that feels both fresh and deeply unsettling.
The new Joker is a key part of Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2, which is now streaming in full on Prime Video. Linklater, who voices the Dark Knight, said meeting his Joker for the first time was a highlight of recording the season. “I was really looking forward to meeting my Joker,” he told reporters. “I was nervous about it too. Is he going to live up to my expectations? He exceeds them by leaps and bounds.”
