Tom Ellis has been a familiar face on television since his early days in the British sitcom Miranda, but it wasn't until he crossed the pond that he truly became a household name. After a memorable guest spot as Robin Hood on Once Upon a Time, he took on the role that would define his career: Lucifer Morningstar in the hit series Lucifer. That show, which ran for six seasons across Fox and Netflix, turned him into a global star. Now, he's back on network TV with a very different kind of character—Colin Glass, a loose-cannon CIA agent in the FBI universe's spy-centric spin-off, CIA.
The show premiered this winter after a rocky road to production, including multiple showrunner changes, the departure of a key cast member, and delays that pushed it out of the fall schedule. Despite those hurdles, it debuted to a strong 8.4 million viewers and earned a quick Season 2 renewal after just five episodes. Under showrunner Mike Weiss, the series has found its footing by pairing the by-the-book FBI Agent Bill Goodman (Nick Gehlfuss) with the unpredictable Colin Glass. Together, they lead a joint task force that blends the strengths of both agencies to tackle domestic terrorism and other threats on U.S. soil.
With Season 2 just two weeks away, CBS has released new details and images for the second episode, titled "Dead Drop." The episode will see Bill and Colin teaming up with a Russian spy named Viktor Molotov, played by Gene Farber. Molotov is a man on a mission—he's been poisoned by his own comrades and is dying. In his final hours, he offers to help the pair take down a major threat to U.S. interests, but only if they agree to help him get his revenge. It's a dangerous bargain, as another image shows Colin and CIA analyst Gina Gosian (Natalee Linez) crouching behind a vehicle, trying to stay out of sight. The episode is set to air on Monday, October 12.
Season 2 Kicks Off with Another Crossover
Just like the first season, which brought in Jeremy Sisto's Jubal Valentine to welcome Bill into the espionage world, Season 2 will start with a crossover event. This time, John Boyd's FBI Special Agent Stuart Scola joins the team for backup during a tense operation to stop a cartel fixer in New York City. But the case takes a darker turn when they discover the body of a DEA agent, turning it into a race against time to prevent more high-profile murders.
Bill is also returning to work after taking time off following his father's death, and his comeback comes with a stunning revelation that will shape the entire premiere. Meanwhile, Colin and Bill's dynamic continues to evolve, and the addition of a revenge-driven Russian spy adds a new layer of complexity to their partnership.
For fans of procedural dramas, CIA offers a fresh take on the genre with its espionage twist. And if you're looking for more revenge-fueled stories, you might enjoy this list of revenge novels that spans from classic to contemporary.
CIA Season 2 premieres on CBS on October 5. Check out the new images above to get a sneak peek at what's coming.
