After surviving a gauntlet of enemies, brutal injuries, and emotional turmoil in its first season, Mizu is setting sail for new shores—but don't expect her to take it easy. Netflix has officially announced that Blue Eye Samurai will return for a second season on January 19, 2027, with six fresh episodes that promise to expand the story beyond Japan.
Created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, the Emmy-winning animated series follows Mizu (voiced by Maya Erskine), a mixed-race swordmaster on a quest for revenge. The season one finale left her with a new mission: travel to London to track down the two remaining men who might be her father. But as she leaves Japan behind, the people she's connected with are facing their own upheavals.
What's Next for Mizu in Season 2?
London presents Mizu with challenges that go beyond geography. Her revenge is deeply tied to the discrimination she's faced for being mixed-race, and entering a society with its own racial dynamics will force her to confront assumptions about identity. While her swordsmanship can handle most physical threats, it can't resolve the personal questions that follow her across the ocean.
The new season also introduces fresh voices to the cast, including Jonathan Pryce, Joel Kim Booster, and Sherry Cola. Animation studio Blue Spirit returns to bring the visually stunning world to life, with Mizu encountering new allies, familiar foes, and the inner demons that refuse to stay behind.
Back in Japan: Akemi, Taigen, and Ringo
While Mizu pursues her quest abroad, the characters she left behind are navigating their own transformations. Akemi (Brenda Song) and Taigen (Darren Barnet) must survive the dangerous politics of Edo Castle under a new shogun. Akemi's arc in season one was a standout—her fight for agency and power now places her in a position where influence comes with its own risks.
Ringo (Masi Oka), who found purpose in helping Mizu, now searches for a new direction. His story carries emotional weight, as his future shouldn't be defined solely by waiting for her return. These parallel narratives ensure the season explores two very different worlds with plenty of unresolved tension.
With only six episodes, Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 has a lot to cover, but the show has proven it can balance action, character depth, and world-building efficiently.
