The Scream franchise is far from finished, and its most iconic survivor is coming back for more. Neve Campbell, who has been the face of the horror series since 1996, has officially confirmed her return for Scream 8. The news comes hot on the heels of Scream 7's record-breaking box office run, proving that audiences still can't get enough of Ghostface's deadly games.
Campbell made the announcement while promoting her Netflix series Black Doves. In an interview with the Associated Press, she casually dropped the news, saying, "Scream 8. That's in the pipeline as well." When pressed for more details, she playfully dodged the question, adding, "You know I can't tell you anything about Scream 8," before confirming, "I'll be in it."
The confirmation comes after Campbell's triumphant return in Scream 7, which hit theaters on February 27, 2026. Despite mixed reviews from critics—the film currently sits at a 29% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes—it became the highest-grossing entry in the franchise, earning $214 million worldwide on a modest $45 million budget. Its opening weekend alone pulled in $63.6 million, a franchise record.
Campbell had sat out Scream VI in 2023 due to a contract dispute, but she returned for the seventh film after reportedly receiving a $7 million paycheck to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott (now Evans). Her comeback clearly paid off, both for her and for the studio.
In Scream 7, Sidney is living a quieter life as a wife and mother, running a coffeehouse and raising her teenage daughter Tatum, named after her late best friend. But peace doesn't last long in Woodsboro, and a new Ghostface soon targets her family. The film also brought back franchise veterans Courteney Cox and Matthew Lillard, much to fans' delight.
As for Scream 8, details are still under wraps. No director has been attached yet, but the writing duo Lilla and Nora Zuckerman are on board to pen the screenplay. The sisters previously served as showrunners on the hit Peacock series Poker Face and have written for shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Suits, Fringe, and Prodigal Son.
While an official release date hasn't been announced, the project is clearly moving forward. Fans of the franchise can also look forward to Black Doves returning for a second season, where Campbell continues to shine in a very different role.
With Campbell locked in, the question now is who else will join her in the next chapter. Will we see more familiar faces from the franchise's past? Only time will tell. But one thing's for sure: Ghostface isn't going anywhere, and neither is Sidney Prescott.
