Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova has become one of the MCU's most beloved characters, and her star is only rising as Avengers: Doomsday approaches. After her standout role in Thunderbolts*, the former Red Room assassin is gearing up for another mission—this time on the comic book page.
Marvel has officially announced Black Widow: Black, White & Red Room, a four-issue limited series launching on December 16. Each issue will feature three stories in Marvel's signature black, white, and red format, spotlighting Natasha Romanoff, Yelena Belova, and the shadowy Red Room organization that shaped both of their lives.
The series marks a special reunion for Yelena's co-creators, Devin Grayson and JG Jones, who first introduced the character over two decades ago. Grayson expressed excitement about returning to Yelena, calling it "a dynamic round-robin" that includes everyone from comic creators to the filmmakers who brought her to life on screen. The black, white, and red format inspired a surprising team-up: Yelena will join forces with Daredevil in the first issue. "When I heard the story would be in the black, white, and red format, I immediately thought of Daredevil," Grayson said. "We always have to think about comic stories visually, and to have a strong, compelling stylistic note like this is a creative gift."
Yelena's adventure is just one part of the oversized premiere. Stephanie Phillips and Giuseppe Camuncoli will send Natasha on a high-stakes heist, while Jeremy Whitley and Bradley Clayton reveal the full story of Nadia Van Dyne's escape from the Red Room. Peach Momoko and Sam Humphries are also among the creators contributing to later issues.
This comic arrives as Yelena's role in the MCU continues to expand. After leading the New Avengers in Thunderbolts* and making a memorable appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Pugh will reprise the role in Avengers: Doomsday, placing Yelena at the center of another universe-altering conflict. Avengers movies are dominating Disney+ charts as fans gear up for the next big crossover.
For those who can't get enough of Yelena, this new series offers a deeper dive into her origins and her connection to the Red Room. It's also a chance to see her team up with Daredevil, a pairing that feels long overdue. Fans of Elektra might want to check out another crime drama while waiting for the comic to drop.
With Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon, Yelena is poised to become a major player in the MCU's next phase. This comic series is a perfect primer for her upcoming live-action adventures, exploring the darkness that forged both Widows and setting the stage for her next chapter.
Black Widow: Black, White & Red Room #1 hits shelves on December 16.
