If you're already feeling the void left by Landman, here's something to fill the gap. The first trailer for Williston, a new indie thriller about the high-stakes world of oil deals, has arrived—and it's bringing a familiar face from Ghosts along for the ride.
Matt Walsh, known for his comedic turns on Veep and The Daily Show, steps into a dramatic role as Larry, one of three company reps heading to rural North Dakota. Their mission? Secure the drilling rights to what could be a massive oil bonanza. The catch? The land belongs to Indian Jim, a man with a deep grudge against the industry—and a history of sending previous negotiators packing.
Joining Walsh are Jonathan Lipnicki, the former child star of Jerry Maguire and Stuart Little, and Geneva Carr, who spent six seasons on Bull. Lipnicki plays Tom, a newcomer whose presence on the team raises questions—why would a rookie be sent on such a delicate mission? The trailer teases that not everything is as it seems.
Written and directed by Adam Seidel, Williston marks his second feature after the 2026 crime thriller Anywhere. Shot on location in Oklahoma, the film is produced by Buffalo 8 and promises a tense, character-driven story about greed, resentment, and the lengths people will go for a fortune.
The film also features a cast of up-and-coming Indigenous actors, including Big Dan Warrior (Seven Cemeteries), Zachary Hokeah (Killers of the Flower Moon), Chris Gazaway (King Ivory), and Mike Simpson (Trail of Tears: The Hymn). Their presence adds authenticity to a story that hinges on the clash between corporate ambition and Indigenous land rights.
For fans of Billy Bob Thornton's upcoming projects, Williston offers a similar blend of grit and moral complexity. And if you're in the mood for more high-stakes drama, check out Peter Berg's WWII epic or Henry Cavill's breakout role returning to streaming.
Williston will make its world premiere at the Coronado Island Film Festival in California on November 8. Until then, the trailer is your first look at this tense, oil-soaked thriller.
