Taylor Sheridan has been on a tear in 2025, launching The Madison and Marshals to strong streaming numbers on Paramount+. But the creator of the Yellowstone universe isn't done yet — he's about to pivot back to the high-stakes world of covert operations with Season 3 of Lioness, and we finally have a release window.

In an exclusive chat with Collider, actor Michael Kelly — known for his roles in The Penguin and Man of Steel — confirmed that production on the new season has wrapped and that he'll be back. More importantly, he gave fans a timeline: “I think it’s somewhere around the end of the summer, probably, it’ll come out. It’s really good, man. Really fun.”

Only Three 'Game of Thrones' Seasons Truly Deserve Masterpiece Status
Game of Thrones may have stumbled at the end, but its first four seasons are legendary. However, only three of those early years are genuine masterpieces.

That places the premiere of Lioness Season 3 in late summer 2025 on Paramount+, a welcome shift from earlier speculation that the show might not return until 2026. The dark-ops spy thriller, written and created by Sheridan, follows the CIA's Lioness program — a unit of female operatives embedded in high-risk missions. The series has drawn praise for its gritty realism and intense performances, particularly from Zoe Saldaña and Laysla De Oliveira.

Kelly's tease comes as he promotes his new Prime Video spin-off movie, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War, which drops on May 20. The film continues the story of John Krasinski's Jack Ryan and features Wendell Pierce reprising his role. For fans of Lioness, the Jack Ryan universe offers a similar blend of espionage and action — a perfect palate cleanser while waiting for Sheridan's next chapter.

Sheridan's 2025 has been dominated by Yellowstone spin-offs. The Madison brought in Hollywood heavyweights Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer for a Western drama that echoes the tone of early Yellowstone. Meanwhile, Marshals followed Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) in a direct continuation of the flagship series. Another spin-off, Dutton Ranch, is set to premiere later this month, and fans are already buzzing about potential crossovers with Landman, Sheridan's breakout hit of the last few years.

But Lioness offers something different: a modern, globe-trotting thriller that leans into the moral ambiguity of intelligence work. Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger that left Joe (Saldaña) and her team in a precarious position, and Kelly's comments suggest the new episodes will deliver on that tension. “We have completed it,” he said, adding that he couldn't reveal much more but promised a satisfying ride.

For those who haven't caught up, the first two seasons of Lioness are streaming now on Paramount+. And if you're in the mood for more spy thrills, check out why Prime Video's Hanna is the best action thriller you're not watching — another underrated gem in the genre.

As for Kelly, he's keeping busy beyond Lioness. His Jack Ryan movie, Ghost War, pits the titular analyst against a rogue black-ops unit, and early buzz suggests it's a worthy continuation of the series. Prime Video's $300M spy thriller Citadel also sets Season 2 for May 2026, proving the streaming wars are heating up for espionage content.
