Prime Video is wasting no time expanding its Middle-earth empire. Even as fans eagerly await the November 11 premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3, word has surfaced that the streaming giant is already planting seeds for Season 4. According to new reports, early development on the next chapter is underway, with a tentative plan to begin filming in early 2027.
This news comes as no surprise to those following Amazon’s grand vision for Tolkien’s world. The studio has long stated its intention to produce five seasons of the epic prequel series, and with Season 3 set to arrive later this year, the story will soon be more than halfway complete. While an official greenlight for Season 4 hasn’t been announced, the early development signals that Prime Video is committed to seeing the saga through.
The Rings of Power debuted in 2022, introducing audiences to a younger Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), a mysterious Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), and a host of new characters navigating the Second Age of Middle-earth. Season 2 followed in 2024, deepening the conflict with Sauron’s re-emergence. Now, with Season 3 on the horizon, the showrunners Patrick McKay and John D. Payne are reportedly already mapping out the next steps.
Beyond the small screen, Tolkien fans have plenty to look forward to. Warhorse Studios recently confirmed it is developing an open-world Lord of the Rings video game, though a release date remains unannounced. Meanwhile, the live-action film The Hunt for Gollum is slated for December 2025, opening alongside Avengers: Secret Wars in what promises to be a massive box office showdown.
For those catching up, The Rings of Power is set thousands of years before Peter Jackson’s beloved film trilogy, chronicling the rise of Sauron and the forging of the Rings of Power. The ensemble cast also includes Charles Edwards as Lord Celebrimbor, Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, and Markella Kavanagh as Nori Brandyfoot.
If you haven’t yet ventured back to Middle-earth, the first two seasons are streaming now on Prime Video. And while you wait for Season 3, you might also check out other Prime Video originals like Beacon 23, a sci-fi series that deserves a second look, or the hockey-meets-romance drama Off Campus.
With Season 3 still months away and Season 4 already in the works, it’s clear that Prime Video is betting big on the enduring appeal of Tolkien’s world. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the books or just love epic fantasy, the road ahead looks long and promising.
