Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is making a grand return to theaters this December, and fans couldn't be more thrilled. The film, which has already grossed over a billion dollars worldwide, will be re-released in more than 1,000 theaters starting December 11. This includes premium formats like IMAX and the coveted 70mm IMAX, ensuring that audiences can experience the epic in all its glory.
The announcement comes as no surprise given the film's massive success. Following the triumph of Oppenheimer in 2023, which nearly hit the billion-dollar mark, Nolan's latest project was already one of the most anticipated films of the year. Despite initial doubts about its hefty $250 million budget, The Odyssey proved to be a box office juggernaut, earning back half of its budget in its opening weekend alone.
The film's success is a testament to its word-of-mouth appeal. Audiences have been flocking to theaters for months, with many returning for repeat viewings in premium formats. The re-release is a chance for those who missed it the first time or want to relive the experience on the big screen once more.
Universal Pictures is handling the re-release, which will include both standard and IMAX screenings. While the exact duration of the theatrical run hasn't been confirmed, it will likely depend on audience turnout. Given the film's popularity, it's safe to assume that theaters will be packed once again.
The cast of The Odyssey is led by Matt Damon as Odysseus, a performance that has already sparked Oscar buzz. Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson also deliver standout supporting roles, while Tom Holland impresses as Telemachus, proving he's more than just Spider-Man. The ensemble also includes Elliot Page, John Leguizamo, Mia Goth, Ryan Hurst, Benny Safdie, and Himesh Patel.
