In the latest installment of Guy Ritchie's crime saga, MobLand continues to deliver high-octane drama, and Episode 3, titled "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg," ends with a literal bang. Frankie Cooper (Johnny Flynn) finally confronts the Harrigans, leaving a bomb as his calling card. The episode sees the crime family reeling from Frankie's coordinated attack, and a kidnapped Bella (Lara Pulver) is reunited with Kevin (Paddy Considine) after a tense standoff.
We sat down with Flynn and Pulver to unpack the chaos, the shifting loyalties, and the moral lines that get crossed in this heart-pounding episode.
Frankie's Ruthlessness Knows No Bounds
Flynn, who plays the unhinged newcomer, doesn't shy away from Frankie's darker impulses. When asked if there's any line his character wouldn't cross, Flynn's answer is chillingly simple: "Frankly, no." He explains that as the season progresses, the audience realizes just how terrifying Frankie truly is. "Jez Butterworth was careful to keep upping the bar," Flynn says, noting that Frankie's actions are designed to match the madness of Maeve and Conrad, and even Harry's ruthless protection of his legacy. "He's built as a match for them, but with a different flavor and energy."
Bella's Fractured Relationships
Pulver delves into Bella's complicated ties with her son Eddie and her husband Kevin. After last season's revelations about Bella and Conrad, the reunion with Kevin is fraught with tension. "You have these tender moments, but the chaotic nature of the show pulls you apart," Pulver observes. She hints that while Kevin and Bella might protect each other, self-preservation often wins. "It's a dog-eat-dog world," she says, adding that loyalties shift almost scene by scene.
As for Eddie, Pulver insists the maternal bond remains unbroken, even after Eddie nearly killed her in Season 1. "The umbilical cord doesn't get cut," she says. "Her loyalty to Eddie is unwavering, but he's a grown man now, and he's a victim of his upbringing." Pulver teases that there will be moments of reconciliation, but Eddie is ultimately his own man.
Frankie's Dangerous Game with Tattersall and Kat
Flynn also sheds light on Frankie's relationship with Tattersall (Toby Jones) and Kat McAllister (Janet McTeer). While Frankie appears to be working for Tattersall, Flynn reveals that Frankie is fully aware of Kat's influence and would drop Tattersall in a heartbeat if it suited him. "He's like a cat with a mouse," Flynn says, describing Frankie's enjoyment in toying with Tattersall. "There's no loyalty there. It's only the fun of it."
As the season unfolds, viewers will see Frankie and Kat working more closely, and Tattersall's fate becomes increasingly precarious. Flynn notes that Tattersall is equally thrilled by the danger, making their dynamic a deadly dance.
