FX is charging ahead with its live-action Far Cry series, and one of the franchise's most beloved voices is already raising his hand to join the fun. Michael Biehn, the actor behind the unforgettable Rex Colt in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, has made it clear he'd love to step back into that cybernetic armor for the small-screen adaptation.
In a recent chat while promoting his new film Onslaught, Biehn told Collider that he's more than ready to revisit the character. "Of course, yes, I would," he said when asked about a potential return. "I didn't grow up in the time when video games were a part of our youth. All of my children really grew up with them, but I didn't grow up with that."
The upcoming FX series, developed by Fargo and Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley alongside It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Rob McElhenney, is set to follow the games' anthology approach. Each season will tell a fresh story with new characters and settings, a structure that Hawley has praised as a major draw. The first season already boasts a starry cast, including McElhenney, Lizzy Caplan, and Steve Buscemi, though their roles remain tightly under wraps.
Biehn's connection to Far Cry goes back to 2013, when he voiced Rex Colt in the gloriously over-the-top Blood Dragon spin-off. He recalls being initially puzzled by the project. "When he approached me for Blood Dragon, Blood Dragon was kind of a standalone at Ubisoft," Biehn explained. "And I went to Dean Evans, who created that. He took me to lunch, and he was trying to sell me on doing the voice on it because it was kind of a takeoff on a little bit like the Kellys takeoff and some of the ’80s stuff."
Despite his initial uncertainty, Biehn credits Evans with shaping his performance. "Dean went and made that it turned into this great video game. Now, I’ve never played it. I’ve never seen it. I don’t know anything about it except for people constantly will tell me what a great game it is and how much they like it," he admitted. The game's cult status has made Rex Colt a fan favorite, and Biehn is well aware of the character's enduring appeal.
When asked if he'd be open to a cameo or Easter egg in the FX series, Biehn was all in. "Rex Colt. I mean, how can you go with a guy named Rex Colt? Is there, like, you know? There's something fun about those Easter Eggs. When they can be like 'Oh, look at Michael. Oh, it’s Michael Biehn,' you know? Like, yeah, sure. Yeah, because, you know, it happens to be, you know, along with five or six or seven really good movies, one of the best pieces of content that I’ve ever done, so it’s great."
That's high praise from an actor whose résumé includes The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, and Tombstone. Biehn's enthusiasm for the role is palpable, and he's quick to give credit where it's due. "Dean Evans, who created that, he took me to lunch, and he was trying to sell me on doing the voice on it because it was kind of a takeoff on a little bit like the Kellys takeoff and some of the ’80s stuff," he recalled, noting that Evans' direction helped him nail the character's tone.
With the series still in development, there's plenty of room for Biehn to make an appearance. Whether as a full-fledged character or a sly nod to longtime fans, his return would undoubtedly be a highlight. For now, fans can only hope that Hawley and company take Biehn up on his offer. In the meantime, those craving more of his action-hero energy can check out his thoughts on Onslaught, which he says feels like Aliens.
As the Far Cry series takes shape, the anthology format opens up endless possibilities. Each season could explore a different corner of the franchise's chaotic world, and bringing back a legend like Biehn would be a perfect way to bridge the games and the show. Whether he's a grizzled veteran or a holographic ghost, Rex Colt's return would be a treat for fans old and new.
