Star Trek is marking its 60th anniversary in style, and the celebration includes a special crossover with the beloved trading card game Magic: The Gathering. The new set, titled Star Trek, is set to hit shelves on November 13, and now we have a first look at how Captain James T. Kirk will appear in the game—courtesy of the man himself, William Shatner.

In a fresh video from Wizards of the Coast, the producer behind Magic: The Gathering, Shatner reflects on the enduring legacy of the franchise that made him a household name. He jokingly calls the original series "moderately successful" but acknowledges that through passionate fandom and endless reruns, it grew into "this unique thing, a show biz phenomenon." That phenomenon is exactly what inspired this new card set, and Shatner seems genuinely thrilled with his depiction in the game's signature art style. He even describes one of his cards as a "really romantic depiction of me."

Netflix Action Series That Nail It Every Single Episode
These Netflix action series are so consistently thrilling that every episode feels like a masterpiece. From The Witcher to Kingdom, here's what to binge next.

The set brings together every era of Star Trek, from the original crew to the crews of The Next Generation, Voyager, Discovery, Lower Decks, and even the upcoming Starfleet Academy. It's a galaxy-spanning collection that promises to delight collectors and players alike.

What's Inside the Star Trek Magic: The Gathering Set?

The standard Star Trek set includes 81 common, 110 uncommon, 80 rare, and 25 mythic rare cards. For those who enjoy Commander format, each of the set's Commander decks comes with 31 rare and 2 mythic rare cards. But the real treasures are the seven special Headliner cards, each signed by an iconic Star Trek actor. With fewer than 250 copies of each signed card in existence, these are sure to be highly sought after by fans and collectors.

This isn't the first time Star Trek has crossed over into the world of tabletop gaming, but it's certainly one of the most ambitious. The collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and the Star Trek franchise has been in the works for a while, and the final product looks like a love letter to the series' rich history.
