For years, fans have wondered what happened to Jon Snow after the events of Game of Thrones. While the series ended with the brooding hero heading north of the Wall, a potential spin-off following his adventures has been stuck in development limbo. Now, Kit Harington has offered a fresh update that suggests the project isn't as dead as many assumed.
Speaking at Motor City Comic Con, Harington addressed the stalled sequel, explaining that while HBO and the creative team tried to make it work, they ultimately couldn't find the right story. "It's open knowledge that we tried to make a Jon Snow show for a little while, and just couldn't," he said, per ScreenRant. "My main thing is not wanting to go there and do an injustice by the character."
Harington emphasized that Jon's ending in the original series felt complete. "I think he ended well. I think that he went where he was meant to. So if you pick him up again, it needs to be for the right reasons," he added. Despite the challenges, the actor admitted there was still "something left to say" about the White Wolf, and that a show centered on him "would be interesting."
The key hurdle, according to Harington, has been the inability to land on a compelling narrative. "We couldn't find the right thing. So we put it down. For the moment. Maybe there'll be a time... you know, he's not dead, and that's the amazing thing, is that he could be picked up again," he said, leaving the door wide open for a future revival.
This isn't the first time a Game of Thrones spin-off has faced an uncertain path. The franchise has already spawned the successful prequel House of the Dragon and the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, both set long before the events of the original series. Meanwhile, other potential projects like the Arya Stark-led show have been confirmed, but Jon's return remains a question mark.
Harington's comments come as a relief to fans who feared the project was completely shelved. However, he was quick to note that "there's nothing being planned at the moment." The actor's cautious optimism suggests that while the spin-off isn't active, it hasn't been officially canceled either.
For those craving more from Westeros, there are plenty of other stories in development, including Nymeria and the 10,000 Ships, The Sea Snake, and a potential Aegon the Conqueror series. But for Jon Snow loyalists, Harington's update is a glimmer of hope that the King in the North might one day ride again.
In the meantime, fans can revisit the original series or check out some forgotten fantasy gems that deserve a second look. And if you're in the mood for more royal drama, Prime Video's 'The Romanoffs' might just scratch that itch.
