As the explosive final season of The Boys prepares to land, fans can start looking beyond the battle against Homelander. The next chapter in the franchise's expansion has a clearer timeline, with creator Eric Kripke confirming the highly anticipated prequel series, Vought Rising, is officially targeting a 2027 debut on Prime Video.
Journey Back to the 1950s
Set decades before the main series, Vought Rising will explore the formative years of Vought International and the supes who built its empire. The series centers on a young Soldier Boy, with Jensen Ackles reprising his fan-favorite role, and Aya Cash returning as Stormfront. The story promises to delve into a sinister murder mystery while charting the origins of the corrupt corporate powerhouse that defines the present-day world of The Boys.
In an exclusive interview, Kripke provided the update, noting that while filming has wrapped, the extensive post-production process means a 2027 arrival is most likely. "I have no idea when, but at some point next year," Kripke stated, clarifying it might be a few months into the year. He emphasized the logistical scale, explaining, "It's gonna take us eight months to just even finish all the VFX. So, we're not going to be done until November, December at the earliest anyway, and then Amazon needs time to localize it to all the different markets."
Early Buzz and Future Plans
Despite the wait, Kripke is enthusiastic about the early results. Having seen cuts of most episodes, he shared, "They're good! It's really coming together. I think people are gonna dig it." The cast also includes Mason Dye, KiKi Layne, and features a mini-Supernatural reunion with Mark Pellegrino.
Notably, the show is already being developed as a multi-season story. Ackles has previously confirmed one season wouldn't be enough to fully explore this era, and Kripke credits co-creator Paul Grelong with driving the vision forward. "He has some really exciting notions about what Season 2 could be that are really innovative," Kripke revealed, indicating the prequel is built for a long-term exploration of Vought's dark roots.
This news comes as the flagship series, one of Prime Video's biggest hits, heads toward its conclusion. The universe continues to grow, with the college-set Gen V also in development for more seasons. For fans eager for more superhero satire, the future is mapped out. In related franchise news, Eric Kripke recently delivered a major update on 'The Boys: Mexico', showing the brand's global ambitions.
While the wait for Vought Rising will require some patience, the promise of diving deep into Soldier Boy's past and the birth of Vought offers a compelling new angle on the universe. It joins a slate of upcoming genre projects, much like the recently announced 'Batman: Knightfall' which secured a Summer 2026 release window.
The Boys Season 5 premieres on April 8, serving as the epic finale before the story shifts to the past. Vought Rising is scheduled to launch on Prime Video in 2027.
