Gotham's finest is back on the beat. Jeffrey Wright has officially confirmed his return as Jim Gordon in Matt Reeves' highly anticipated sequel, The Batman Part II, and he's bringing back a beloved detail that fans have been waiting for: the iconic mustache.

Wright took to Instagram yesterday to share a fresh behind-the-scenes image from the set, giving fans their first official look at the actor in character for the sequel. The photo confirms that Gordon, who many expect will have been promoted from detective to police commissioner, will sport the classic facial hair that has been a staple of the character across comics, films, and TV for decades.

Top 10 Stephen King Coming-of-Age Novels Ranked: From Christine to The Institute
Stephen King excels at coming-of-age stories, blending horror with the anxieties of growing up. Here are his top 10 ranked, from Christine to The Institute.

“It wouldn't be Jim Gordon without the stache,” Wright wrote in the caption, signaling that Reeves is honoring the character's long-standing visual tradition. From the animated series to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, Gordon's mustache is as iconic as the Bat-Signal itself.

The sequel, which began filming this week after years of development, will see the return of Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. But the casting news doesn't stop there. Reeves has recruited several high-profile newcomers, including MCU veterans Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson, who are trading their Marvel roles for a darker corner of the DC universe. Game of Thrones alum Charles Dance has also joined the ensemble, though his role remains under wraps.

While the villain lineup is still officially unconfirmed, speculation is rampant that Stan may be playing Harvey Dent, setting up a potential Two-Face arc. Brian Tyree Henry has also been cast in a key undisclosed role. Given the first film's ensemble of antagonists—including Paul Dano's Riddler, Colin Farrell's Penguin, and John Turturro's Carmine Falcone—it's likely that The Batman Part II will feature multiple threats for the Dark Knight to face.

For fans who want to revisit the first chapter, The Batman is currently streaming on HBO Max. The sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
