It's been five long years since No Time to Die marked Daniel Craig's final bow as James Bond, and while the next big-screen 007 is still a ways off, fans are about to get a fresh dose of spy action. 007 First Light, a new video game from the team behind Hitman, launches on May 27 — and the buzz is already building for a potential follow-up.

IO Interactive CEO Hank Abrak recently told Collider that a sequel is very much on the table, depending on how the community responds. "We are so blessed that we are in a place where we can pick and choose what we want to do," Abrak said. "So, if this goes really well and it’s a beloved thing from the community, why not?" It's a promising sign for fans who have been craving more Bond content.

The game follows a young James Bond fresh out of MI6 academy, eager to prove himself as the next great 007. Patrick Gibson — who played a young Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin — voices the iconic spy. The cast also includes Priyanga Burford as M, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny, and Lennie James as Greenway.

According to IO Interactive, the main story will take the average player around 20 hours to complete, with plenty of side content to extend the experience. The gameplay trailer released last month showed off multiple approaches to each level — stealth, gadgets, smooth talking, or full-on combat — giving players the freedom to play their way.

Meanwhile, the next James Bond movie is still in the early stages. Amazon acquired the franchise for a hefty sum, and Dune director Denis Villeneuve is attached to helm the film. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the script, though he's keeping plot details under wraps. Villeneuve has confirmed that Bond is next on his schedule after he finishes Dune: Part Three, which hits theaters on December 18. That means fans will have to wait a while longer for a theatrical 007 adventure.

In the meantime, 007 First Light offers a chance to step into Bond's shoes — and possibly kick off a new gaming franchise. For those eager to get in the mood, check out our list of Top 6 James Bond Video Games to Play Before 007 First Light Arrives.

With the game's release just days away, all eyes are on IO Interactive to deliver a spy thriller worthy of the 007 legacy. If the early buzz is any indication, this could be the start of something big.
