Fans of the animated hit My Adventures with Superman can finally breathe a sigh of relief. After a nearly two-year wait since the second season aired on Adult Swim, star Jack Quaid has delivered a promising update on the show's highly anticipated third chapter, confirming it's still on schedule for a release this year.
While promoting the final season of The Boys, Quaid spoke exclusively about the status of his other superhero series. "I believe so, as well," Quaid stated when asked about a 2024 release. He reassured viewers, "I can tease that it is coming out. I know fans have been really patiently waiting, but it is coming out. I've been recording ADR recently. It's happening. I've seen it."
Quaid's Enthusiastic Tease for Season 3
The actor didn't hold back his excitement for the new episodes. "What I can tease about it is I think it's maybe my favorite season of the show," he revealed. Quaid highlighted that the upcoming season will feature some standalone episodes that are "really, really exciting" and praised the writing, suggesting it might be the series' funniest outing yet. "It's always been a funny, lighthearted show, but some of the writing is truly, truly wonderful," he added.
Quaid also reflected on the unique position he holds, starring in two radically different superhero projects. "I'm very appreciative to be in two superhero shows that are very much two sides of the superhero coin," he explained. He described The Boys as "the gritty, dark underbelly" while celebrating My Adventures with Superman for its optimistic core where the hero is "all about saving cats and trees and being a dork."
Contrasting Heroics and Fan Appreciation
In a separate interview, Quaid expanded on this contrast with even more enthusiasm. "My Adventures with Superman is so optimistic and so fun," he said. "There's conflict. But it's such a happy, fun, cute show where Superman is just altruistic and good and morally right and kind of a dork, but [that] doesn't matter. He's standing up for the little guy."
He also took a moment to thank the show's dedicated fanbase for their patience. "The fans have been so patient and so cool, and I have to thank all the fans," Quaid expressed. He noted the immediate connection viewers had with the series, citing early fan art and cosplay. "I want to thank them for their patience. And Season 3 is coming... I think it's one of my favorites so far. It's probably our funniest season, but also there's so many different– giant stakes come into it as well."
Future Under the New DC Leadership
Addressing the show's place within the new DC Studios regime led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, Quaid offered a simple, reassuring answer: "It's still around. So I'm assuming they like it, which is great. Because they could have totally been like, ‘Well, this doesn't fit in with our new purview,’ and scrapped it, but they're keeping it around, and it's amazing."
Quaid, a self-professed Superman fan, also shared his glowing review of James Gunn's recent Superman film, drawing a parallel to how directors like Sam Raimi have mastered their genres. "I think what Scorsese is to mob movies, James Gunn is to superhero movies. He just knows how to do it," Quaid said. He saved special praise for star David Corenswet, whom he's known for years. "He's one of these people you meet and you're like, ‘Oh, yeah, whenever they need a new Superman, it's probably going to be you.’ But he just absolutely crushed it." Quaid admitted the film moved him to tears, calling it "hopecore" and a fantastic achievement.
With Quaid's confirmation and palpable excitement, the wait for Clark Kent's next animated adventure now has a clearer horizon. While an exact premiere date remains under wraps, the promise of a hilarious, high-stakes, and heartfelt Season 3 arriving later this year is finally official.
