For decades, fans have debated whether there can be only one — but Titan Comics is proving there's room for at least one more version of the immortal warrior's saga. The publisher is adapting Gregory Widen's original screenplay for the 1986 fantasy classic Highlander into a four-issue comic series, and the first look at the interior art and cover gallery has just arrived.
Highlander: The Original Screenplay will bring Widen's initial vision to the page, with the screenwriter himself handling the adaptation. Artist Szymon Kudranski is providing interior artwork, and issue #1 is set to hit comic shops and digital platforms on December 2, 2026, priced at $4.99. The debut issue runs 32 pages.
The timing is no accident. The original film celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and the franchise is gearing up for its biggest revival in decades. Henry Cavill is stepping into the role of Connor MacLeod for Amazon MGM's upcoming reboot, directed by Chad Stahelski of John Wick fame. That film will also star Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista as the Kurgan, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Irons. If you've been following Cavill's post-Superman career, you know he's been on a roll — his WWII thriller with Guy Ritchie recently found a massive audience on Netflix, proving he's still a major draw.
What to expect from the comic
The series follows Connor MacLeod across centuries as he clashes with rival immortals and edges toward the mysterious Prize that awaits the last survivor. Titan is pulling out all the stops for the launch, offering 12 different covers and variants for issue #1. Gerardo Zaffino provides Cover A, while Lee Binding's photo-based Cover B blends imagery from across MacLeod's journey with the iconic lightning of the Quickening. Kudranski delivers Cover C, and Claudia Gironi rounds out the main covers with Cover D.
There's also a nostalgic treat for longtime fans: Brian Bysouth's original poster artwork for the 1986 movie returns for Cover E, and the same art will be available as a virgin cardstock Cover K and a foil Cover L. A color blank sketch edition serves as Cover F, while Zaffino's work gets the inks virgin cardstock treatment for Cover G and a foil variant for Cover H. Kudranski's Cover C also gets a virgin cardstock edition as Cover I, and Gironi's art receives a foil variant for Cover J.
The bigger picture
This comic isn't just a nostalgia play — it's a chance to see the story as Widen first imagined it, before Christopher Lambert became a French Scotsman, before Sean Connery became a Scottish Spaniard, and before Queen created a kind of magic. It's a rare look behind the curtain of a cult classic that has spawned sequels, a TV series, and now a blockbuster reboot.
If you're a fan of comic adaptations of beloved sci-fi properties, you might also want to check out Seven of Nine's comic return, which brings another iconic character back to the page. And for those who prefer their sci-fi on screen, Kirk's Enterprise crew is taking shape in the Strange New Worlds finale.
Pre-orders for Highlander: The Original Screenplay #1 are available through local comic shops and Forbidden Planet in the UK and Europe. Whether you're a diehard fan or a newcomer curious about the franchise's roots, this is a release worth marking on your calendar.
