DC Studios is about to get a whole lot weirder—and we mean that as a compliment. The People v. Gorilla Grodd, the upcoming mockumentary series that puts one of comics' most bizarre villains on trial, has officially wrapped production. Star Skyler Gisondo, who plays Jimmy Olsen in the new DC live-action universe, shared the news exclusively with Collider at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival.
Gisondo, who made his debut as Clark Kent's best pal in 2025's Superman, will reprise the role in this comedy series. The show follows his character as he investigates the case of Gorilla Grodd, voiced by Jimmy Tatro. For those unfamiliar, Grodd hails from Gorilla City—a hidden society of hyper-intelligent apes empowered by a crashed alien ship. Unlike his peaceful kin, Grodd is a megalomaniac with dreams of world domination, making him a perfect subject for a satirical courtroom drama.
When asked about the production status, Gisondo couldn't hide his excitement: "We're done. We just wrapped a couple of weeks ago, and...yeah. It's in the can, man." He was careful not to spill too many details, joking about the risk of getting fired, but he did heap praise on the creative team behind the project.
Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, the duo known for the critically acclaimed American Vandal, are at the helm. Gisondo called them "some of my favorite writers and filmmakers," adding that their first season of American Vandal was "ten out of ten." He promised that their approach to the DC Universe is unlike anything fans have seen before: "This is like an approach to this world that we have not seen. I'm excited to see how it all shapes up."
The series was announced earlier this year as part of DC's expanding slate, and it's set to arrive in 2027. While the exact release date remains under wraps, the fact that filming has wrapped suggests we're one step closer to seeing this wild concept come to life.
Gisondo's star is certainly on the rise. He was honored at the festival as one of this year's Breaking Big recipients, alongside actors like Adia, India Amarteifio, and Tom Rhys Harries. Beyond Gorilla Grodd, he's set to appear in the comedy sequel Focker-In-Law this holiday season, playing the son of Ben Stiller's Greg Focker, opposite Ariana Grande. He'll also voice a character in Shrek 5 next year and reprise Jimmy Olsen in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow film.
With production wrapped, fans can start speculating about how this mockumentary will fit into the larger DC universe. Will it be a standalone oddity or a gateway to more experimental storytelling? Given the talent involved, it's safe to say The People v. Gorilla Grodd will be a must-watch for anyone craving something different from the usual superhero fare.
Stay tuned for more updates as the series moves through post-production. In the meantime, check out our recent wrap news from other productions and see what else is on the horizon for DC's live-action slate.
