Superhero movies have dominated Hollywood for decades, but not every caped crusader gets a standing ovation. While the genre has given us classics like The Dark Knight and Iron Man, it's also produced some absolute stinkers that are painful to watch from the opening scene to the final credits. Here are eight superhero movies that are terrible from start to finish.

8. Supergirl (1984)

Before the upcoming 2026 Supergirl film, there was the 1984 disaster that failed to capture any of the magic of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies. Helen Slater's debut as the Girl of Steel was a misfire on every level, wasting a stellar supporting cast that included Faye Dunaway, Peter O'Toole, and Mia Farrow. Unlike Reeve's iconic turn, Slater's performance couldn't launch a franchise, and the film remains a cautionary tale of how not to adapt a beloved character.

7. Blade: Trinity (2004)

The Blade series started strong with the groundbreaking 1998 original and Guillermo del Toro's stylish 2002 sequel. But Blade: Trinity brought the franchise crashing down. This third installment was so bad it made the entire trilogy feel like a waste of time. Wesley Snipes' return in Deadpool & Wolverine was a fun nod, but it doesn't erase the memory of this messy, disappointing conclusion.

6. Guardians (2017)

Don't confuse this with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. This Russian mockbuster is a cheap, amateurish rip-off of The Avengers that looks like it was made for pocket change. While it's technically worse than Suicide Squad (2016), it's also more entertaining in a so-bad-it's-good way. If you have to watch any movie on this list, make it this one—it's short, chaotic, and unintentionally hilarious.

5. Justice League (2017)

With Zack Snyder's 2021 director's cut available, there's no reason to ever watch the 2017 theatrical version. Joss Whedon's rushed reshoots and re-editing resulted in a disjointed, lifeless mess that tried to speed-run the Marvel Cinematic Universe formula. It's one of the most baffling blockbusters of the decade, and even the flawed Snyder Cut is infinitely better.

4. Catwoman (2004)

Beating a dead cat? That's the only way to describe discussing this film. Halle Berry's Catwoman is a trainwreck that has almost no redeeming qualities. It's not even fun-bad like Guardians—it's just painful. The movie is a masterclass in how to waste a talented lead and a beloved character.

3. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987)

After the disappointing Superman III, this fourth installment was the final nail in the coffin for the original franchise. With a shoestring budget and a ridiculous plot about Superman eliminating nuclear weapons, the film is a laughable mess. Christopher Reeve deserves better, and so do audiences.

2. Batman & Robin (1997)

Joel Schumacher's campy nightmare is the gold standard of bad superhero movies. George Clooney's Batman, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze, and endless puns make this film an unintentional comedy. It's so bad it killed the Batman franchise for nearly a decade.

1. Steel (1997)

Shaquille O'Neal's attempt at a superhero movie is the worst of the worst. This DC adaptation is a low-budget, poorly acted, and utterly forgettable disaster. It's a testament to how even the most promising concepts can fail spectacularly.
