God of War fans have been riding high since the 2018 reboot won Game of the Year and the epic sequel God of War: Ragnarok seemingly wrapped up Kratos' story. But when Sony announced a spin-off centered on Kratos' late wife, Laufey (also known as Faye), the backlash was swift—and even a pizza chain couldn't resist piling on.

During PlayStation's latest State of Play, Santa Monica Studio unveiled 20 minutes of gameplay from God of War: Laufey, starring Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil) as the titular character. The game follows Faye after her death, transporting her to a mystical realm called Everywhen, where gods from various mythologies go after they die. While Kratos makes a brief cameo, his role is significantly smaller than in previous entries—a move that has left many fans cold.

Marvel's Serpent Society Slithers Into Magic: The Gathering With Deadly New Card
Marvel's snake-themed villain team, the Serpent Society, gets a legendary creature card in Magic: The Gathering's upcoming crossover set, bringing deathtouch and poison counters to the battlefield.

Enter Domino's Pizza UK. The brand's official X account posted a cheeky jab: “A God of War game with no Kratos = Pepperoni Passion with no Pepperoni.” The tweet quickly went viral, with fans piling on their own pizza-themed complaints. Santa Monica Studio didn't let the dig slide, replying, “ok thanks for the feedback, dominos pizza corporate account.” The exchange sparked a wave of memes and debates about whether the spin-off can stand on its own.

This isn't the first time a divisive project has drawn unexpected criticism. From Tom Hanks passing on a mystery series to Taika Waititi's WWII satire, fan pushback often fuels the conversation. But a pizza chain calling out a major studio? That's a new topping.

Despite the uproar, Santa Monica has confirmed that more Kratos stories are in the works, including a full remake of the original God of War trilogy. However, that project is still in early development and likely years away. In the meantime, God of War: Laufey aims to expand the mythology by exploring Faye's untold adventures. The game's unique premise—set in a purgatory-like realm where gods clash—has intrigued some fans, even as others mourn the absence of the Ghost of Sparta.

Domino's may have had the last laugh for now, but the real test will come when God of War: Laufey launches. Will it be a satisfying slice of storytelling, or a half-baked idea that leaves fans hungry for more Kratos? Only time—and the court of public opinion—will tell.
