Fans of James Gunn's Superman universe have reason to celebrate. Mikaela Hoover, who portrays Daily Planet columnist Cat Grant in the upcoming sequel Superman: Man of Tomorrow, has dropped a tantalizing hint about the return of the beloved newsroom crew. In a recent interview for Collider's Ladies' Night, Hoover teased that audiences can likely expect to see more of the Daily Planet's finest when the film hits theaters next year.
While Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo) have already been confirmed for the follow-up, the fate of other key staffers like Perry White (Wendell Pierce), Steve Lombard (Beck Bennett), and Ron Troupe (Christopher McDonald) has remained uncertain. Hoover's comments suggest that the entire newsroom may be back in action. "I think that we can maybe expect to see some of the Daily Planet," she said, adding with a laugh, "It would be hard to do another Superman without the Daily Planet, right? It would be impossible." Her playful caution to "keep on the good side with DC" only adds to the intrigue.
Set for release on July 9, 2027, Superman: Man of Tomorrow is written and directed by James Gunn, who has emphasized that this is not a direct sequel but a standalone adventure. The plot sees Superman (David Corenswet) forced into an uneasy alliance with his arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) to confront a cosmic threat: the alien Brainiac (Lars Eidinger). The film also brings back several heroes from the first movie, including Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), along with ARGUS director Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), the Engineer (María Gabriela de Faría), and Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio). Newcomers Matthew Lillard and Andre Royo join in undisclosed roles, while Adria Arjona is reportedly cast as the warrior queen Maxima.
Hoover is currently busy voicing and providing motion-capture for Tony Tony Chopper in Netflix's live-action adaptation of One Piece. She also appears in the second season of the black comedy anthology Beef as Ava, the much younger wife of a country club member. Her Ladies' Night episode promises more insights into her career and the upcoming DC film.
