James Cameron's Avatar franchise has always been about pushing boundaries, but Avatar 4 is shaping up to be a game-changer. The upcoming sequel will introduce a major time jump that promises to expand Pandora in ways fans have never imagined. Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, who plays Tuk in the series, recently shared exciting details about the film's scope and production status.

Speaking on the red carpet at the Saturn Awards, Bliss revealed that only a small portion of Avatar 4 has been filmed so far. That footage takes place before the much-anticipated time jump, which she says will open up the story significantly. 'We filmed like a first little section of it, and that's before this epic time jump, which is gonna really expand this story from the characters, plans, ecosystems of Pandora,' Bliss explained. 'We barely touched the tip of the iceberg for what we know about this world, and these characters, and how deep they can go.'

Looking for something great to watch on Netflix this weekend? We've got three picks, including a nostalgic rom-com, a Coen brothers classic, and a new animated adventure starring Michael B. Jordan.

The actress also offered a glimpse into the production timeline, noting that she was just nine years old when she filmed her initial scenes for the sequel. Now 16, Bliss marveled at how the franchise has grown alongside its cast. 'I do remember it well. Actually, even though I was nine, because it was a time jump type thing… I am now 16. Isn't that kind of insane?' she said.

This unique production schedule is a hallmark of Cameron's ambitious vision. The director has been planning the sequels so far in advance that the actors are essentially aging into their roles. Bliss confirmed that The Way of Water and Fire and Ash were designed as one cohesive story, while Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 will form a new narrative arc. 'The Way of Water and Fire and Ash were made in mind with 4 and 5, and it's a whole story that I just hope we get to finish,' she said. 'The Way of Water and Fire and Ash are basically one story, and 4 and 5 are going to be a whole 'nother thing, a whole next chapter.'

The time jump will allow the franchise to explore new ecosystems and character dynamics, building on the foundation laid in the first two sequels. While specific plot details remain under wraps, Bliss's comments suggest that Avatar 4 will delve deeper into Pandora's mysteries and the Sully family's journey. The film is expected to feature a mix of familiar faces and new additions, including Michelle Yeoh, who is set to join the cast.

The Avatar franchise has always been a visual and narrative marvel, and Avatar 4 seems poised to continue that tradition. With a tentative release date of December 21, 2029, fans have plenty of time to speculate about what lies ahead. In the meantime, Avatar: Fire and Ash is available to stream now, offering a taste of the epic storytelling to come.
