Anya Taylor-Joy is heading back to the small screen with a gripping new crime thriller that's set to drop on Apple TV+ in just a few weeks. The streaming service has announced that Lucky, a limited series starring the Queen's Gambit breakout, will premiere on July 15, with new episodes rolling out weekly through August 19.

Taylor-Joy has had a whirlwind year on the big screen, from the underperformance of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga to the massive success of Apple's genre-bending hit The Gorge opposite Miles Teller. But now she's returning to the format that made her a household name: prestige television. Lucky marks her first major TV role since The Queen's Gambit catapulted her to stardom in 2020.

Fans theorize House Stark knew about Aegon's prophecy of the White Walkers. House of the Dragon may confirm this connection by the series' end.

What Is 'Lucky' About?

Based on the novel by Marissa Stapley and executive-produced by Reese Witherspoon, Lucky follows a former criminal who thought she had left her past behind. But when her old life comes calling, she's forced to pull off one last job to secure her freedom. The logline will feel familiar to fans of HBO's Euphoria—think high stakes, moral ambiguity, and a protagonist who can't escape the consequences of her choices.

The series is created by Jonathan Tropper, who also wrote Apple TV+'s black comedy Your Friends and Neighbors starring Jon Hamm. Tropper is having a busy year: he also penned the script for the upcoming buddy cop action movie The Wrecking Crew with Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, and is the sole credited writer for next year's Star Wars: Starfighter.

Who Else Stars in 'Lucky'?

Taylor-Joy leads an impressive ensemble cast that includes four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (King Richard), Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood, Justified), and Drew Starkey (Outer Banks). With that kind of talent on board, Lucky is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated streaming events of the summer.

With seven episodes total, Lucky will wrap up its run on August 19. It's the kind of tight, limited series that's perfect for a weekend binge—or, if you prefer to savor it, a weekly appointment viewing. Either way, Taylor-Joy's return to TV is a win for fans who've been waiting to see her sink her teeth into a meaty, serialized role again.
