In an exclusive chat with Collider, Cretton shared a tentative update on when production might begin for Season 2. When asked if cameras could roll this year, he replied, “I hope so. We’ll leave it at that.” While not a firm commitment, the tease suggests that filming could start before the end of 2026, potentially leading to a quicker turnaround than the multi-year gaps fans have endured for other streaming shows.
A Fresh Take on Superhero Storytelling
Co-created by Cretton and showrunner Andrew Guest, Wonder Man broke the MCU mold by focusing on the Hollywood journey of Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a superpowered actor vying for the lead role in an in-universe remake of Wonder Man. The series was praised for its witty, character-driven narrative, and Abdul-Mateen’s performance earned him the first acting Emmy nomination for the MCU since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The first season ended on a poignant note: after the movie premiere, Simon shadowed a security guard at the Department of Damage Control and used the opportunity to break his friend Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) out of prison.
