Get ready for a homecoming with a body count. Taylor Sheridan's hit crime drama Tulsa King has been renewed for a fifth season, and the show is making a major move—both in story and production—to New York City. That means Sylvester Stallone's Dwight Manfredi is heading back to the place he's been avoiding since he got out of prison.
Season 4 doesn't even premiere until October 16 on Paramount+, but the early renewal signals big confidence in the series. And it's easy to see why: Tulsa King has become a fan favorite for its blend of mob drama, fish-out-of-water humor, and Stallone's undeniable charisma. Now, with Season 5 set to film in the Big Apple, the stakes are about to get a whole lot higher.
From Tulsa to the Big Apple: A Risky Homecoming
For three seasons (soon to be four), Dwight has been building an empire in Tulsa, Oklahoma—a city where he had zero connections. He's turned a marijuana dispensary, a car dealership, whiskey and bourbon investments, a cabaret, a casino, and even a wind turbine project into a sprawling criminal operation. But his old mob family back in New York wants a cut, and Dwight isn't exactly in a sharing mood.
That refusal has already led to assassination attempts, and now Dwight is voluntarily walking into the lion's den. Season 5 will see him return to New York, where he'll have to face the people who exiled him—and who still want a piece of his pie. If he's bold enough, Dwight might even expand his business in the city, further provoking the mob that's already been weakened by internal conflicts. It's a dangerous game, but if anyone can play it, it's Dwight Manfredi.
Of course, Dwight rarely operates alone. The series has shown time and again how he brings along the loyal crew he's assembled in Tulsa, turning them into his chosen family. It wouldn't be surprising if some of those fan-favorite characters make the trip to New York with him. After all, Dwight's success has always been a group effort—even if he's the one calling the shots.
The Tulsa King Universe Expands to Texas
As if a location change wasn't enough, the Tulsa King universe is getting bigger. A spin-off titled Frisco King (formerly NOLA King) is in the works, starring Samuel L. Jackson as Russell Lee Washington Jr. Jackson first appeared in the back half of Season 3 as a hitman ordered to take out Dwight by the Renzetti crime family. But Lee and Dwight share a deep bond from their prison days—Dwight practically saved Lee's life—so Lee didn't go through with the hit. Instead, inspired by Dwight's success, Lee sets his sights on Frisco, Texas, to build his own empire.
While no official crossover has been confirmed, Tulsa King star Frank Grillo has said it "would be silly if there wasn't some kind of crossover for two, three, four episodes." With Dwight heading to New York and Lee setting up shop in Texas, the stage is set for an eventual collision. And given Sheridan's knack for interconnected storytelling, fans should keep their fingers crossed.
