Just days after news broke that Tracker was shaking up its cast for Season 4, the CBS hit has added another familiar face to the mix. Michael Malarkey, best known for his role as Enzo St. John on The Vampire Diaries, is set to appear in the upcoming season in a recurring role that ties directly into one of the show's key characters.
According to TV Insider, Malarkey will play Adam, a private investigator who works for high-end law firms. Adam's path crosses with Reenie (Fiona Rene), an old friend he hasn't seen in years. Their reunion is filled with familiar banter that hints at a shared history, leaving fans to wonder if there's more to their connection than just friendship.
Malarkey's casting brings a certain bad-boy charm to Tracker, a quality he perfected during his time on the CW's supernatural drama. His character is described as disarmingly handsome, intelligent, and sophisticated, with a rebellious edge that could complicate things for Reenie, who has had her share of romantic ups and downs. From her complicated history with Colter (Justin Hartley) to her messy relationship with Elliot (Michael Rady), Reenie's love life has been anything but smooth.
While it hasn't been confirmed that Adam will be Reenie's new love interest, the possibility is certainly there. The show has been teasing more personal storylines for Reenie, and Hartley himself hinted at that in a recent interview. "I guess she's finding a new office. I guess she wants a new office across town or something, and she's struggling to find it," he told TV Insider. "[We're also] diving into her personal life a little bit. I hope a little bit more even. I'd like to find a little bit more about her backstory and things like that. So hopefully they'll go there a little bit more, too, in the writers' room."
Season 4 is also welcoming back Cassady McClincy Zhang, who has been promoted to series regular. Zhang, known for her role in The Walking Dead, previously played Reenie's assistant, Mel. Now she joins Hartley, Rene, and Chris Lee as a regular, and there's speculation that Mel might have ulterior motives, especially given her suspicious interest in Colter's cases. If that's the case, Season 4 could deliver a major plot twist involving Mel while also giving Reenie more screen time.
With Malarkey on board, Tracker continues to build an impressive ensemble. The show has already seen the return of Jensen Ackles' Russell Shaw in Season 4, adding another layer of intrigue. And for fans of Malarkey's vampire days, his new role is a far cry from the supernatural, but it's sure to bring the same intensity and charisma.
