After that jaw-dropping Season 1 cliffhanger, Netflix's sleeper hit The Four Seasons is back for a second season of friendship, grief, and gorgeous Italian scenery. In a new interview, co-creator Tina Fey and star Will Forte sat down with Collider to unpack the Season 2 finale, that surprise David Tennant cameo, and their hopes for a potential Season 3. But before diving into the show, the duo couldn't resist sharing their favorite underrated Saturday Night Live sketches from the one and only Will Ferrell.
When asked about a Ferrell sketch that doesn't get enough love, Fey immediately pointed to a deep cut: Jacob Silj, a character with 'Voice Immodulation Syndrome' who couldn't control the volume of his voice. 'I don't think we hear enough about Jacob Silj,' Fey said, recalling her privilege of anchoring the Weekend Update desk when the character appeared. 'Look that one up on YouTube.' Forte, meanwhile, admitted his love for the classic 'More Cowbell' ('That's like saying "Stairway to Heaven" for Led Zeppelin') but also shouted out the 'Get off, Chad!' sketch and the clothing store bit with Jeffrey's. Fey chimed in with a fond memory of Ferrell's Mr. Tarkanian: 'I've been doing speed and cocaine all day, and I want a piece of you!'
Of course, the conversation eventually turned back to The Four Seasons. The series follows a tight-knit group of friends—played by Fey, Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Colman Domingo, Marco Calvani, and Erika Henningsen—as they navigate personal blind spots and the lingering grief of a lost friend during their traditional vacation. This season, they traded their usual locale for Italy, where sunshine and breathtaking views provided a backdrop for emotional reckoning.
When asked about the show's future, Fey was optimistic but cautious. 'We would love to continue for as long as the world would have us,' she said, directing her plea straight to Netflix. The pair also delved into the surprisingly tricky art of on-camera eating—a staple of the series. Fey, a self-proclaimed pro, boasted, 'On-camera eating is one of my only strengths as an actor. I ate so much on 30 Rock.' She admitted she skipped the lobster roll ('Lobster might be dodgy') but happily devoured boardwalk ice cream. Forte, who was training for a marathon during filming, had a more strategic approach: after injuring his leg, he gave up exercise and indulged in 'Jeni's ice cream, pizzas, and pastas' without regret.
The chemistry between Fey and Forte's characters, Kate and Jack, feels remarkably real—so much so that Fey's husband, who works on the show, often asks if their on-screen fights are inspired by their real-life marriage. 'He does often say to me, "Is that supposed to be me?"' Fey laughed. 'And I always say, "Oh no, that's from so-and-so in the writers' room." And he's like, "That's me."' Forte, who has no hand in the writing, joked that he gets off easy.
