In the world of Gilead, secrets can destroy, but resilience often comes from leaning on one another. That theme is front and center in the season finale of Hulu's The Testaments, titled “Secateurs,” where the young women at the heart of the story face life-altering choices. After the well-meaning but risky actions of Agnes (Chase Infiniti) and Daisy (Lucy Halliday), Becka (Mattea Conforti) must bear the dangerous consequences. Daisy, an undercover operative for the resistance Mayday, finds herself unexpectedly emotionally tied to the women she's supposed to be infiltrating, while Agnes struggles to protect her friend from execution. As the season wraps, the girls realize that change isn't a solo mission—their true strength lies in each other.
Collider recently sat down with Infiniti and Halliday to talk about the finale's biggest moments, including the kiss between Agnes and Becka, Agnes's discovery about her mother June, and what that final shot of Agnes, Daisy, and Shunammite might mean for Season 2.
Being a Pearl Girl Was a Stressful Wardrobe Challenge
Halliday, who plays Pearl Girl Daisy, admitted that wearing the all-white uniform was a daily source of anxiety. “I can proudly say that I didn’t once spill anything on the costume,” she said. “It was an incredibly stressful experience, every single day, fearing that I would. I feel very validated right now.” She contrasted her character's pristine attire with the more relaxed Plums, who could lounge on the ground. “The costume department took it very seriously that I was head-to-toe in white, and I wasn’t granted that freedom. It was tough, but we made it.”
The Sex Talk Scene: Daisy Tries to Tell the Truth
One of the season's lighter moments came when Daisy explains sex to Shunammite (Rowan Blanchard), who refuses to believe her. Halliday recalled filming that scene: “There’s something so endearing in the fact that, finally, only facts are being said in that scene. And then, that’s the thing that Shunammite refuses to believe. Daisy is trying so hard to just give the truth to Shunammite, to give her something to latch onto, and Shunammite is having none of it.” She added with a laugh, “I just remember the amount of eye contact I had with our boom operator during that whole scene because he was standing right there.”
The Kiss Between Agnes and Becka: A Heartbreaking Moment
The finale's most talked-about scene is the kiss between Agnes and Becka. Infiniti described it as “very, very heartbreaking because of the circumstances, especially with what Becka has gone through, even within that scene prior to that kiss.” She and Conforti worked closely with showrunner Bruce Miller to protect the moment. “Above all, regardless of anything, Becka and Agnes do love each other. Whether or not Agnes loves Becka in the same way that Becka loves Agnes, you can’t deny that they have this special love for each other. In that moment, you really feel that they are protecting each other and leaning on each other. I watch it back now and it’s very heartbreakingly sweet and it hurts to watch.” Halliday added, “It’s that thing of a first kiss, regardless of what feelings are behind it.”
Agnes Learns the Truth About June
When Agnes finally learns that June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) is her mother, she needs time to process. Infiniti explained that a rushed meeting would have felt wrong. “I think Agnes would love to meet June. If there was a world in which Daisy told Agnes who her mom is, and then in the next scene, Agnes meets June, it would just feel too rushed. I think Agnes really needs to process what Daisy has told her, especially considering that her entire life, Agnes has been told that June Osborne is essentially, in simpler terms, the worst person on the planet. She is a terrorist. There are a lot of internal things that she needs to figure out before she even has that conversation.”
What the Final Scene Sets Up for Season 2
The finale ends with Agnes, Daisy, and Shunammite together, hinting at a new alliance. Infiniti and Halliday teased that this trio will be central to the next season. “They’ve all been through so much, and now they have to figure out how to move forward together,” Halliday said. “It’s not going to be easy, but they’re stronger together than apart.” For fans eager to see what comes next, the seeds are clearly planted for a rebellion—and a deeper exploration of loyalty, identity, and love in Gilead.
