When you dive into The Terminal List, you're signing up for a wild ride with Navy SEAL Commander James Reece (Chris Pratt), a man who takes on dangerous missions to protect the country he serves. The action is intense, the stakes are high, and the show doesn't shy away from making you squirm. With 17 military veterans working on Season 2—including author Jack Carr and executive producer Jared Shaw—authenticity is at the core of this fan-favorite series, which has already reached over 100 million viewers worldwide.

Season 2 picks up four years after the events of Season 1, following the backstory laid out in the prequel series Dark Wolf. Reece finds himself tangled in a global conspiracy that spans the Indian Ocean, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, before circling back to the U.S. and connecting directly to his own father, former Navy SEAL and CIA officer Thomas Reece. Themes of loyalty and betrayal run deep, and Reece is forced to confront his own mortality.

Why Harlan Coben's 'Safe' Remains His Best Netflix Thriller
Eight years after its debut, Harlan Coben's 'Safe' remains his finest Netflix miniseries, blending a stellar cast with relentless suspense.

In an exclusive interview, showrunner David DiGilio—who is working to build a Jack Carr universe of prequels and spin-offs—shared his excitement about Season 2, the character dynamics that have been building since Season 1, and the massive action sequences in the finale. He also teased his desire to tackle Savage Son for Season 3, and whether there are plans for more seasons of Dark Wolf.

DiGilio's Excitement for Season 2: A Redemption Arc

DiGilio was most excited about finally getting to explore a redemption arc for Reece. "I was so excited to jump into that arc of finding a reason for Reece to live again," he said. Season 1 was a dark, psychological revenge thriller that broke Reece down to his darkest places. Dark Wolf showed a man descending into the complex, dark sides of the black operations world. Now, in Season 2, Reece is trying to pull himself out.

DiGilio noted that the only way for Reece to move forward is to become the insurgent he was fighting against in order to take down the conspiracy. He also highlighted the book's foreword, which discusses the difficulty military veterans face when readjusting to civilian life. "The story of Book 2 and Season 2 is a metaphor for that incredibly difficult process," he explained. Interestingly, Reece's first step toward finding a reason to live again is getting involved in anti-poaching efforts in Mozambique—a cause that DiGilio's own father-in-law, a military veteran, had also gotten into.

The Challenges of a Global Story

Season 2 is perhaps the most globe-trotting book in Jack Carr's series, and DiGilio admitted that was the biggest challenge. "We had to go from a very contained Season 1, where we shot in and around Los Angeles, to this insane story that is bouncing from the Indian Ocean to Mozambique to Brussels to Odessa, Ukraine, Lebanon, and all of these different locations," he said. The production moved a crew of 300 around the world, shooting in South Africa, Toronto, and Morocco. Capturing the scope of the book was no small feat.

DiGilio also credited Chris Pratt for his foresight. "Huge hat tip to Chris Pratt. He saw what was coming for us in the True Believer adaptation," DiGilio said, referring to the backstory that sets up Raife and Mo Farooq. The relationship between Reece and Raife, which was explored in Dark Wolf, plays a significant role in Season 2.

What's Next for the Franchise?

Looking ahead, DiGilio is eager to adapt Savage Son for Season 3, which would continue Reece's journey. He's also thinking about potential spin-offs, including more seasons of Dark Wolf, which is set seven years before the events of the first season. With so many stories left to tell in the Jack Carr universe, fans have plenty to look forward to.

If you're a fan of military thrillers, you might also want to check out Prime Video's darkest military thriller, which is a perfect replacement for Reacher. And for those who love epic fantasy, Prime Video's Fourth Wing could be the next Game of Thrones.

As the franchise continues to expand, DiGilio's vision for the Jack Carr universe is clear: authentic, intense, and always pushing the boundaries. With Season 2 now streaming on Prime Video, fans can dive back into the world of James Reece and see where his redemption arc takes him.
